Re: Retail Card

BenMarkley3- is 100 percent correct. And like he said, most people try to avoid store cards.

Re: Retail Card

From My Fico website:

"Credit mix determines 10% of a FICO Score

FICO® Scores will consider your mix of credit cards, retail accounts, installment loans, finance company accounts and mortgage loans. It's not necessary to have one of each, and it's not a good idea to open credit accounts you don’t intend to use.

The credit mix usually won’t be a key factor in determining your FICO Scores—but it will be more important if your credit report does not have a lot of other information on which to base a score."

Tom,

With your scores... Any store card will be easy. I would go with Lowe's. You'll get a large limt with your TU score. Just my two cents...

Re: Retail Card

I have three retail cards currently - Amazon and Walmart (both Synchrony) and Overstock (Comenity). I cold-apped Amazon at Thanksgiving '16 and got Walmart and Overstock on preapproval offers in May-June of last year. I use Amazon and Walmart pretty much every month, and I've liked the Amazon card even better since they changed their policies to allow their 5% cash back to be applied to purchases, not just statement credits. Contrariwise, I've only used Overstock a couple of times since last fall, mainly because their media category (where I used to make the bulk of my Overstock purchases in) has been suspended since last fall; they say they're working on re-establishing it but I haven't seen any progress on that front in months. Now that I've paid off that account, I'm beginning to consider closing it, provided that I can get decent CLI's on Amazon and Walmart (or my major cards) to compensate for the drop in available revolving credit that would otherwise occur. No matter how good the CL is (mine with Overstock is currently $5,800) there's not much point to having a card with a high limit just to pad out the revolving credit total.
