Re: Rolling Over Credit Card Debt - Strategy and ?s regarding 0% Credit Cards in Post App-orama Worl

Just got off of the phone with Navy Federal Credit Union.

The person I spoke with this time told me that the zero balance was reported to the credit bureaus on January 26 (not January 17 as I was told on the last phone call with them).

Given that this is only the fourth business day since then it seems reasonable that Transunion might not have updated their records just yet.

Given what we now know, I would appreciate any feedback as to when I can reasonably expect to see the desired result.

I am going to pace out my free credit reports from the other two agencies but any input would be helpful.

Re: Rolling Over Credit Card Debt - Strategy and ?s regarding 0% Credit Cards in Post App-orama Worl

When I was doing my experimenting, I recorded profile snap shots and pulled a lot of paid reports because I was tracking more than Fico 8 and 9 scores, but I just recorded _profile_ data.

I never took notes on when stuff was _updated_ and reported, so my recollection will all be anecdotal and years ago, so my memory is fuzzy of course so don't quote me like this is the gospel. But  moderately confident in what I'll type.

If I had a statement close on a Wednesday, I wouldnt see NFCU updates until the next Tuesday.

The 26th was a Sunday.

I'm going to guess 1/30 or 1/31 and but the good news is, as I look through what updates and notifications I do have still, I see a LOT of updates via TransUnion on Saturday and Sunday.

A week is normal from when it was reported and I do remember being agitated when it would take longer, because it wasn't the norm

Looks like your cc debt is down from $63,299.44  to  ~ $4,700.

I may have missed this part.

So did you take the Loan for from your IRA?

With the goal of a....

Current Card Balances:

TD Flex Pay $1,747.00 of $23,400 = 7.47%

NFCU $0 of $8,100 = 0.00%

Allliant Visa Platinum Rewards $747.00 of $10,000 = 7.47%

Citi Thank You Preferred = $359.16 of $4,800.00 = 7.48%

AMEX Blue Business Cash = $0.00 of $10,000.00 = 0.00%

US Bank Platinum Visa = $840.00 of $11,300.00 = 7.43%

US Bank Cash+ Visa Signature = $1,000 of $15,000 = 6.67%

Although they are both spenders I paid the Chase and BOA cards down to $0.00 as I plan to apply for cards with these companies.

Re: Rolling Over Credit Card Debt - Strategy and ?s regarding 0% Credit Cards in Post App-orama Worl

After chatting with Transunion today I learned that they update information on the day they received it.

Following this call I spoke with Navy Federal Credit Union and finally got them to admit that their last update to the credit unions was on my statement date on December 26,2024 and that they would not be updating the credit unions until my next statement date on February 16th of this year (three full weeks beyond the previous expected statement date of January 26th.

I spoke with a supervisor and nothing I said was going to get NFCU to report the zero balance until the next statement.

In hindsight, changing my payment date in an effort to get my statement one week earlier was a horrible mistake.

I have opened disputes with all three credit reporting agencies in an attempt to get the reported balance on this card down from $7,315 to $0 (limit is $8,100).

The other action I took this afternoon was to use the balance transfer check from Citizens to deposit $12,850 into my checking account.

With the 5% balance transfer fee I am now utilizing roughly 99% of the $13,500 balance with a statement date of February 12th which means the clock is ticking.

I also took a loan from my ROTH IRA on December 30, 2024 which gives me 60 days from that date to pay it back.

My vital question right now is how long can I reasonably expect the dispute to be resolved?

I doubt the dispute will work.

I predict it will be resolved on 16Feb.

As I recall, you were trying to get your util down, so you could open new 0% cards and then dump some debt on them. Why did you max the citizens account? Isn't that going to queer the deal?

Re: Rolling Over Credit Card Debt - Strategy and ?s regarding 0% Credit Cards in Post App-orama Worl

I am not going to wait until Feb 16.

My overall utilization is very low.

If there is a chance the dispute gets resolved within 10 days it might be worth waiting.

Otherwise I might just have to apply for some cards without resolution on NCFU.

The BT checks from citizens expired today.

It was now or never.

I hate to say it, but I don't think your dispute will resolve in your favor. NFCU's report last month was accurate. Its their prerogative when to update. As long as their previous update was accurate, there's nothing to dispute.

There was no harm in trying, but I don't think it'll help.

Your profile isn't perfect, but its not horrific either.

If it was _me_ I would gather my thoughts, then move forward under the assumption that NFCU won't update until the 16th.

Re: Rolling Over Credit Card Debt - Strategy and ?s regarding 0% Credit Cards in Post App-orama Worl

At this point I am committed to applying for credit cards on Tuesday, February 11th at the latest as Citizens will be issuing a statement on the following day.

I also need to raise cash to repay the 60 day loan from the ROTH IRA so waiting longer would be pushing my luck there as well.

As Navy Federal Credit Union will not be issuing a statement until February 16th I either will win my dispute or proceed with 90% utilization on that card with 5% overall credit utilization.

Assuming the worst case that I am applying with 90% utilization ($7,315 of $8,100) on that one card it would make some sense to talk about the cards I had planned to apply for in that context and to priotitize the issuers most likely to approve me or give a large balance in spite of this.

The list below includes the cards I was looking at and the order I had ranked them when I did not know I would have this problem:

1. Bank of America Limited Rewards

0% on Purchases for 15 Months

0% on Balance Transders for 15 Months (3% BT Fee)

No Annual Fee

$200 Cash Rewards if Spending Target Reached

1.5% Cash Back

2. Chase Freedom Flex

0% on Purchases for 15 Months

0% on Balance Transders for 15 Months (3% BT Fee)

No Annual Fee

$200 Cash Rewards if Spending Target Reached

5% Cash back on Quarterly Category up to $1,500

3. Wells Fargo Active Cash

0% on Purchases for 12 Months

0% on Balance Transders for 12 Months (3% BT Fee)

No Annual Fee

2% Cash Back

4. Amex Blue Everyday

0% on Purchases for 15 Months

0% on Balance Transders for 15 Months (3% BT Fee)

No Annual Fee

$250 Cash Rewards if Spending Target Reached

3% Cash back on three categories, 1% Otherwise

5. TD Bank Double Up Card

0% on Balance Transders for 15 Months (3% BT Fee)

No Annual Fee

2% Cash Back

6. Edward Jones World Mastercard

1. Bank of America Limited Rewards

0% on Purchases for 15 Months

0% on Balance Transders for 15 Months (3% BT Fee)

No Annual Fee

$200 Cash Rewards if Spending Target Reached

1.5% Cash Back

2. Chase Freedom Flex

0% on Purchases for 15 Months

0% on Balance Transders for 15 Months (3% BT Fee)

No Annual Fee

$200 Cash Rewards if Spending Target Reached

5% Cash back on Quarterly Category up to $1,500

3. Wells Fargo Active Cash

0% on Purchases for 12 Months

0% on Balance Transders for 12 Months (3% BT Fee)

No Annual Fee

2% Cash Back

4. Amex Blue Everyday

0% on Purchases for 15 Months

0% on Balance Transders for 15 Months (3% BT Fee)

No Annual Fee

$250 Cash Rewards if Spending Target Reached

3% Cash back on three categories, 1% Otherwise

5. TD Bank Double Up Card

0% on Balance Transders for 15 Months (3% BT)

No Annual Fee

$150 Bonus if spending target reached

2% Cash Back

6. Edward Jones World Mastercard

0% on Balance Transders for 12 Months (0% BT Fee in first 60 days)

No Annual Fee

Loyalty Points

Given what we know now, how would you prioritize these cards if I were to throw caution to the wind and apply with Navy Federal showing $7,315 on my credit reports?

Re: Rolling Over Credit Card Debt - Strategy and ?s regarding 0% Credit Cards in Post App-orama Worl

So this thread is helpng me immensely, I can't stress how much I appreciate you being candid about your process while trying to crowd think.

I also have to find a new home for 58k (down significantly in the last 18 months) and that's not even all of it, that is just what needs rehomed. My process is a lot easier than yours because my plan was significantly different.

I rotated the balances back and forth between me and my wife while treading water, but now I'm making very fast progress due to me finishing some further education and parlaying that into a significant promotion and raise while the wife also is doing better significantly.

I have three months before I need to pull the trigger though.

I was super careful earlier to not give a suggestion earlier _other_ than to assume NFCU won't update until the 16th, choosing the words "gather your thoughts" very particularly. Because what you're doing is complicated and risky and I'm no authority. However, you ended up gathering your thoughts and deciding what I would have decided too.

With that said, I'll look at the cards you listed and try to figure out what order _I_ would do it in and _why_, then share it.

Here is a sloppy list of BT promo cards I was gathering. Its hardly comprehensive and I didn't spend a lot of time gathering everything. I don't have BT fees for some even. And I'm in most of those CUs, but some I'm not in and don't know how they respond to new members, didn't get the time to research yet.

I have until the 11th on a Tuesday, I'll try to have some thoughts before next weekend though.

Skim "spree" threads if you haven't already, that's what I intend to do.
