Re: Scared to Apply for Amex! Help!!!

Amex is actually pretty easy to get approved for in my experience, and I think you'd get a platinum card. Consider the Ameriprise version there's no SUB but no annual fee for the first year either. I got the Ameriprise Platinum and Ameriprise Gold on the same day. Both have the fee waived year 1 but the gold card also has a nice SUB. I'll likely cancel the platinum in year 2 and either upgrade the gold for a bonus or close it and open the standard platinum and gold cards to get those bonuses.

Re: Scared to Apply for Amex! Help!!!

I’ve noticed that when ever I apply for a cc that when I got to the page where you review the “pricing & terms” section, if I see a solid APR not a variable rate then your good. When ever I get something that goes like 10-18% I get denied. When I applied to AMEX BCE it give me a solid APR and was approved for 20k and my EXP score dropped 9 points the same went for when I applied @Dicover 5k. Hope this helps.
My Fico was 720.

Re: Scared to Apply for Amex! Help!!!

First and foremost the AMEX PLATINUM CARD is by far the best looking and the only REAL METAL card, and let me tell you, your presence is known.  Ok moving on from my "Ego monster".  When I started the journey with AMEX I was let in the door with a Green Card with a low 600 score. 1 year anniversary MY EGO took over and upgraded to the AMEX Platinum card ( keep in mind I DO NOT TRAVEL ).  Fast forward to last month when the renewal came up for my wife and I -$725, it really made me think twice and I also analyzed my spending for the year 2017, and realized that I would of got a lot more points with a PRG card. So after a week of debate I let my ego monster go and got a PRG card. It's all in your spending habits. If you do not travel, get the PRG card, if you travel EVERY WEEK AND FLY DELTA get the Platinum card.

Ultimately, if you don't care about earning points or the fee and want a nice heavy card and people to say "Wow that is a heavy card" - Get it.

With your scores, if everything else is in line you will not only get in with AMEX they will GROW WITH YOU - Quick.

May I recommend a revolver Hilton  ( right now the best reward points ) and read up on the 3X CLI

My first card ever with Amex was the Platinum, and I only had about 4 months of credit history.
If Amex says you're pre-approved, then 99% of the time you will be approved. Go for it.
