Should I app for the Amex Gold Rewards first or SPG?

Been an Amex member for many years - have the Costco, Everyday Preferred and Delta Gold cards.

I now want to apply for either the SPG and/or the Amex Gold Rewards charge card.

Both come with nice sign-up bonuses after spending a certain amount.

I heard that I might be able to receive a SP since I am a current customer. Also, I also read on the boards that if I applied for both, that I should go for the Amex gold first then the SPG credit card.

If it is a HP, will I get hit for one pull or 2?

Someone told me to do the same thing, its one pull go for it.

Apply no more than 36 hours apart and it should be one pull

Does it  matter if I apply for the Gold first or SPG? So I guess applying at the same time would not be a good idea right?

Apply for the PRG first then the SPG.  And you can apply back to back.  Many people have got two approvals one after the other but the key is to do in the order I listed.

One other thought. . . why does it matter if I applied for the PRG first? Is it AMEX's algorithms or something?

Actually have no clue.  I just know that's what has worked for others including myself.
