Ok first off Id like to thank everyone on here in advance for all the help I have recieved in the past from these forums. Secondly I was wondering of my approval odds because ive been having the app itch this whole week lol. So just in the past 2 months I was approved for the Cap 1 Venture 10k limit balance at 3.3k currently. Discover It approved at 4k balance 0. Total Utilization including all other cards is at 14%. I have never really had an American Express card to myself and have been always an authorized user on someone elses account ofcourse with great standing. Also on the other hand I like the Barclay Arrival plus WEMC which only pulls Transunion being my lowest inquiries at 1. What card do I have a better chance of getting at a high limit ? Is it better if i pay off my Cap1 card balance then apply? Also is it better to garden or go for it? I just dont feel like wasting an inquiry and get denied for too many new accounts. Any help would be great .
My credit scores
Experian 740 (4 Inq)
Equifax 764 (2 Inq)
Transunion 773 (1 inq)
2 Charge offs 5 years ago BOA and CHASE
BOA PAID
AAoA 3.2 years
Apply for the AMEX and the do the day 61 CLI where you might get a 3x increase. For ex if you get an initial limit of $5k, at day 61 submit for a CLI of $15k and I will likely be approved!
My amex should be here this week
What was your initial approval credit line? Did you also have new accounts within a month or two? Im just worried about them denying me based on too many new accounts (2)
Err missed part of the part.. will let others answer![]()
I doubt AMEX would deny for two accounts in two months, with the scores you have.
Is the AU AMEX still on your CR? If so that only increases the +1
Edit: And with AMEX, it is really irrelevant what beginning CL they give you. Even $1k can grow to $9k in 9 months.
Yes the AU account is still active and in good status with all payments done on time. Do you also think the 3.3k balance on the cap1 venture card of 10k would be an issue?

I would worry about the baddies more than util.

I had more new accounts when Amex approved me. And my scores are significantly lower than yours. Plus, since you're an AU, you'll get some backdating goodness.
So I finally decided to break the ice !! Applied and was instantly approved! However I was quite surprised with such a low CL of $2000. Was expecting more since I have other cards that make this one look small. But the good side is that Ive placed my foot into American Express officially. Feels Good!!!! Went Ahead and also applied for the Walmart Card and was approved for the Mastercard version at 5k. Good day!
Question: Does Amex usually start with low CL and work their way up? Is there a way to to increase CLI upon card activation?
Done for good now! The GARDENING HAS BEGUN!
The reason for the low CL is more than likely the baddies, despite them being 5yrs old, from all my friends that ever applied, ones with baddies got lower lines regardless of income and other current card CLs
From what I've seen on here, it's a lost cause doing a recon for a higher initial CL. Just follow the 61 day 3x Amex CLI guide and your chances of getting that to 6k after 61 days should be great
However, in regards to your Walmart card, call synchrony backdoor # tomorrow and ask for 25k they will counter to the current max
