Re: Should I wait or move on

She was denied based on not having her own credit, the average age was 2yrs and to many inquiries. I found out that the initial car place Nissan of McKinney submitted her credit to about 8 to 12 banks and when they couldn't get it done when she went to Nissan of Mesquite and they got the deal done through Nissan on the first run.  She has not primary credit just the AU's.  Her income is 28K with her being a full-time student at Sam Houston University. As far as trying Discover & Cap One, both of those are in her file as AU's.  Advise, please.

Well that's not good, what were the reasons for denial? Were the pre-approvals single APR? Any derogs or high UTI on the AU accounts? What's her income?

I echo this...  was the pre-approval a specific APR or did it say from ##% to ##%?  As a range is not a very good sign of a pre-approval.  Being she was most likely not a member on the Amex website (Unless I missed somewhere that she's an AU) then she wouldn't have gotten the 'NameHere, You are preapproved" message either when clicking apply under a card.  Sorry to hear about the denial but would like to hear more as to why.

Being an AU does not prevent her from apping for her own card from those LIs.

Have her try the prequal sites and see what they offer, if anything..

Re: Should I wait or move on

Make. 6 months of on-time car loan payments. Then check for pre-approval and app. She'll get better cards/limits with that approach.
Though she has a Fico. Score due To AU, her internals (payment history, amt of debt, etc will all be N/A), that's the reason for the denial.
If she is in a hurry, let the car loan report 2 on-time payments, then app- she'll get the starter Delta Amex that way for sure.

Re: Should I wait or move on

My first card was an amex gold. Only credit I had was my car loan, which I financed on my own. Offer came after 6 months of payments.
