5/23 9:50 pm I pulled the plug, applied for Ring card, got 10 day message, immediately called Recon, was told to wait until my app is in they system
5/24 9:37 am They wouldn't reconsider.... told me I need to spend some time not applying... I guess I'm done asking for stuff
5/26 The denial finally came through so I called Recon.... got a very helpful guy who tried hard to transfer the credit from one of my other cards, but couldn't do it due to my high numbers of inquiries and recent accounts. Advised me to keep on managing my credit the way I have been, and to wait at least 6 mos to reapply.
The card I want most is the Barclaycard Ring.
In February I was turned down cold for it, while at the same time I was approved for Barclay's US Airways (now Aviator) card with a $10k CL.
In a few days, with 3 months having passed, both the Ring denial and US Airways approval will be off of the "application status" page.
My TU score is 717. I have an abundance of inquiries & new accounts.
I can think of a couple of strategies to follow. Was wondering if you folks had any input.
Strategy 1: go ahead with application now, when I get denied call recon and ask to (a) PC the Aviator for the Ring, (b) take some of the CL from the Aviator and put it on Ring, or (c) PC my LL Bean card for the Ring.
Strategy 2: wait another 3 months, or until my TU FICO score is higher.
Any thoughts on which is preferable, or on some other strategy?

Apply now. I got mine with 702 TU FICO

(a) and (c) are unlikely to fly OP. You can always check with them but those 2 products won't likely PC to Ring. (b) is more plausible provided that if the application is initially denied that they can offer (or you can suggest) moving some CL from your existing Aviator card to open Ring depending on the outcome of reconsideration.
If that fails (or any other subsequent reconsideration attempts), then wait it out.
Maybe none of the above happens and you're instantly approved. So, any outcome is possible.
You may have max exposure with them. What is your limit on the Rewards MC? If you don't get immediate approval it is still likely they will move some CL from another one of your cards with them to accomadate the opening of the ring. BTW I'm curious about why you want the ring so badly?

I am going to assume it's because either
A) He wants an emergency balance-carrying card
B) Usually carries some balance and wants the lowest possible APR (without jumping through hoops to acquire)
Your TU score is good as long as they don't pull anything else you should be fine. How many inquiries are a ton of inquiries OP? Also, how recent are they?

Thanks, if I do I'll be sure to report back and let you know what happens. It would be in a couple of days when the application status page is clean.

I see what you mean... because US Airways & LL Bean are cosponsored... I learn something new every day on this site.
Hmmmmm

Limit on Rewards is 5k and on LL Bean it's 3300.
I hope you're right about moving some CL.
The Ring is the card most suited for my personality. I'm not that into rewards and perks and stuff, because I only want to buy what I need, when I need it, from whom I want to buy it. It seems to me that the Ring, instead of giving you bells and whistles gives you low fees and low interest, and less to think about. I like that.

Eloquently written. There may yet be cards out there that could fit your needs if you shop at specific places but you're right...if you don't want to worry about where you shop then the Ring is definately a very good fit for you. I got mine in March and never looked back. I got approved and immediately called recon and got an increase less than 10 minutes after I got approved. I recommend you try that since they use the same hard pull. At that point on the phone you can also try to move balances around from your other cards. ![]()

Yes I like the ability to borrow at low rates. I actually don't usually carry a balance, but I love being able to get low rates and low fees when and if I would want to use the card that way. The tradeoff is no rewards but I can live with that, much prefer the direct savings in fees and interest.
On TU I have 12 inquiries, many less than 6 months old. Thing is, half of them come from Barclays, almost all because I stupidly kept applying for a CL on my low-CL LL Bean Card, not realizing it was resulting in a hard inquiry EACH time ![]()
