Synchrony's Instruction Letter

My mother just started applying for credit. She was approved for a walmart mastercard with a limit of $400. When she applied she had to call into synchrony, they did the whole please hold while we verify information. sidetrack for a minute she apped for discover and had to upload a copy of the ss card, license, and utility bill card was sent $1k. now today she attempted to activate her walmart mastercard and learned of a restriction on the account. Synchrony asked "did you get the letter we sent?" apparently the letter will have instructions about what to do next. I was wondering has this ever happened to anyone because this is a first for me, so I just told her to wait it out i mean thats the only option any idea whats going on?

Re: Synchrony's Instruction Letter

Sounds like she has to wait on the letter. It's probably for verification, although not sure what the letter will ask her to do. How long ago did they say the letter was sent?

How long ago was that? Should she have received it by now?

I kind of had a similar thing with Synchrony and the Marvel MC.  They approved the app over the phone after I applied online and said they were sending out the cards.  A letter arrived a day before the cards stating I needed to call their fraud department before I could use the cards (which I didn't have yet).  It also said something about some use of the card which I didn't understand since I didn't have them.  Then I thought the cards went somewhere else and someone was using them.  I called the number on the letter and told them I did not have the cards, I think they asked a few basic verfication questions and said to call the same number back when I got the cards so the next day the cards came and I called them.  They said everything was fine and they would activate the cards during our phone call which they did.  No problems or issues since then.  Maybe your cards got there before the letter that could be a basic further phone verfication.  Hope it works out for your mother. Do post and let us know.

Re: Synchrony's Instruction Letter

so she has marvel too. It was definitely going to be the same result hopefully she could pry some more slight details out of the next csr. she found out that synchrony sent out a packet with some "forms" that needed to be filled out and then returned to synchrony. That is more details than she got before so I'm almost certain it has something to do with limited actually no credit history before this. All her new accounts have posted to the credit report she was successfully able to activate discover (she sent in documents to get approved) and her target redcard was instantly approved which shocked me. She has never really used credit at all so I added her as a AU so she can get the feel of it because lets face it this credit stuff is critical. A typical app process for her was apply get the we need to speak to you message ask her what phone number she is using that phone number is on TU only 2 accounts showed on TU at the time both AU, so maybe that had something to do with it typical thin file stuff in my opinion but you all know a bit more than me.

Re: Synchrony's Instruction Letter

At least you know what it is, nd it does not appear to have any negative effect on the account itself.
