No matter where I go, this Target Red Card offer keeps following me Target is not even my gig but it's been on me so much lately I had to at least look into it to see what its all about. Apparantly there is a huge Target card following on MF. I think its the 5% that attracts everyone because it certainly cant be the anemic SLs they're giving out
Not knocking the card just wondering if its something Im missing... and here it comes... should I App for the card if that's the case?
Classic MF question with obvious answer... Should have apped yesterday... what are you waiting for?
The marketing Gods are on me... need help.
Thats too easy of an answer I like the free shipping and the 5% is a plus. I dont need it but what do we all actually need? Could use some padding for UTL but it doesnt seem to provide much. Biggest plus I guess would be the TL. Meh

If you want a REDcard but don't want a new account, get the debit card. Same benefits otherwise but no credit to deal with.
I got sucked in by the offer to spend $100 and get $40 off. Coupon had lots of asterisks but I love Larabars and Maranatha almond butter and at basically 40% off, it was a no-brainer so I stocked up and grabbed Kingdom Hearts III for my Xbox and my Dr. Bronners peppermint soap.
I have compared pricing between Target and Amazon and they're pretty competitive and Target has the advantage of not dealing with third party sellers and sifting through knock off merchandise.
I got a $500 limit. Definitely anemic. And you can't request CLIs. They also don't give you CLIs if you pay your card before it reports so it's a bit more hassle to finesse growth out of but from what I have read, once it starts growing it's pretty regular growth and the chance to get the MasterCard.
I would just go look and see what they might have that would interest you. They are also extremely competitive when it comes to groceries too, especially with that instant 5% discount. If it wasn't for the coupon mania that Kroger stores do, it would be much cheaper for me to buy my groceries from Target.

I don't want to disagree with the above, because my point is mostly we don't know how true that is. In general, we at MyFico sometimes correlate things based on A) small sample size B) myopic experiences and C) confirmation bias.
Every time I read a post that says "Card issuer XYZ likes to see ... " I cringe a little.

It's said enough around here that it might as well be gospel at this point and I remember reading a post somewhere where a rep actually told a member to let the statement cut and then pay it and also to update income every month even if it didn't change which is what started the whole thing.
There are multiple reports of people who were paying before the statement cuts never getting a CLI until they let balances report so it seems solid enough to be a recommendation. I would rather be wrong and tell someone to do something to get a CLI that wasn't necessary than to not suggest it and have them come back wondering a year later why they still have a $300 limit.
Was looking hard as its one of the very few store cards thats MF worthy by concensus . Although anemic SL, its still quite useful for everyday items and doesnt require the Cap1 Triple Beatdown (Walmart). As stated free shipping and 5% on 99% of items. Does also offer graduation to Open Loop given proper usage and handling. Everyone that has it loves it minus the CLI issues. Might be a winner.
