@jeffm4688 wrote:Got the denial letter for my 3X cli on activation today, only stated "account not eligible because time with amex too short" - I'm assuming this means still have to wait 90 days and give it another shot?
I was planning on giving my amex card a large amount of spend (over it's $1000 limit each month) and paying it off before statement close... is this a bad thing in amex's eyes?
Yes, wait 90 days and try again.
I will not go over my limit in any of my cards. I'm getting CLIs on cards that I only use once a month (or less). If you want to use your card a lot, I'll say, pay it down every week or so and don't go over your limit.
Good Morning Everyone...
Well I tried for my 3x CLI and got DENIED....SIGH....
AMEX EDC $1k limit asked for $3k and got the dreaded 7-10 business days response online...SIGH...
My FICO score according to AMEX website is 717
PIF every month my AMEX and when I requested the CLI my balance was $0 so I will try again in June 2016 and see what happens then...

Welcome to the forums. If you have baddies, might take a long time to get there. Seems if Amex starts you at 1k, need to put in some time. Later, if no cli, then apply for other card, and combine later.

Dang... I started at $500 so it's probably a lost cause for me now
Wow I just got off the phone with AMEX Customer Service and they told me the reason my request was denied is because my card is slated in their system for an automatic CLI at 6 months. So no HP on my credit and the representative said that my account history from 1997 was EXCELLENT and that from her experience my CLI would be WELL OVER the 3X mark. So I am just to keep doing what I am doing and use the card as my daily driver to get the points and PIF every month before the close out date and I will get my CLI this Spring/Summer
The AMEX CSR told that looking over my account history with AMEX that even after the 6 month CLI mark I could apply to get a new AMEX Platinum charge card. I told her well I use to have one years ago and when I cut my credit card debt I closed the account back in 2005 and she said that is no problem because that old AMEX Plat card you paid every month and had no late payments etc etc..They consider even though you closed the account in good faith and you can come back at anytime. She really educated me about AMEX and how they do business

I would take what the CSR told you with a grain of salt. Amex CSRs notiously give out bad info. There is no way they would know if you're going to get an auto CLI in 6 months. Even if she did, user initiated requests are not affected by auto CLIs. As for the no HP, that is true of 99% of CLI requests with Amex. You don't need to wait until June to try again for a CLI. You only need to wait 90 days after a denial to try again. That's what you should do.
I was approved for the BCP with a score of 647 on 12/01/15. Starting limit of $1000. Today I put in a CLI request for $3000. I got the 7-10 day response, so I called in since I wanted to verify one of my offers (spend $1000 in 3 months earn $150). Anyways, she was about to transfer me to another department to check the status, but when I asked about my offer, she noticed my opening date of 12/1. She said there was no reason to transfer, and that it was denied because their policy is the account must be open for 60 days. She said to try again once the 60 days from opening date are up.
Hope this helps some people. I've skimmed this thread, and I've seen varying info about if the "wait 60 days after opening" is still a rule or not. It seems it is.

You were misinformed I believe. Myself and other people have seen first-hand that CLI's have been granted at the time of card activation.

There is no longer a 60 day rule. Only 90 days is denied and 6months if approved.
