No reason whatsoever. I just figured that it would be good to keep increasing to lower utilization, as long as it was offered and was a soft pull.

If that's the case, I'll probably just ask for an even $25,000. That'll only be a $2,900 increase from my current limit.

Yeah, I understand the utilization aspect but you'd be better to spread out your overall limits over several different cards.  Either way, good luck and let us know the results.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

Understood.

I've kept up with bumping the credit line on several of my cards (AMEX, Discover, Capital One & Citi) because of the easy process and the fact that they do not require a hard pull. It's definitely not a situation where I need the additional credit. I just figure that the bigger credit lines can only benefit me. I'm certainly not going to run up a five-figure credit card bill anytime soon.

At present, my combined credit limits across my 5 cards is sitting at $69,300. Obviously, the AMEX makes up just about 1/3 of that, but they probably the have the most generous and uncomplicated CLI process available.

I'll try for $25,000 in a few days and let you all know how it works out. Thank you for your help.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

Please excuse my ignorance, since I am new to this forum.

I wish I read up on this thread BEFORE I went ahead and requested a CLI earlier this morning.  I was approved for BCE for 1k on Feb 22, and without knowing about this rule change, went ahead and asked for a CLI on the member webpage.  I asked for 3k, and AMEX e-mailed me, stating that I should give them a call.

The 1st page with the consolidated FAQ states that CLI rule is first 61 days, then 6 months after that, but has that rule changed?  Since this thread is mega long, I can't seem to find a place where, if there was any, change to this rule.

Strange though in my case.  Why wouldn't they just flat out deny me for not being eligible?  Why would they instead ask me to call them?

My account info shows that account was opened on Feb 22, and the first statement due to close on Mar 17.

Did I make a big mistake?  What should I be expecting when I give them a call tomorrow?

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

Quick question.... I opened up my BCE a month ago ($2k SCL). I requested a CLI at activation and was denied (account too new). Do I now need to wait 60 or 90 days for the next CLI request?

Welcome to the forum

We don't consider any question as ignorance but someone seeking knowledgeSmiley Wink

While some have been lucky to get an increase before that time most don't

In your case Amex seems to asking people to call lately to tell you in person of the denial so don't waste your time

Use the card and on your 61st or 62nd day try again

Good luck on your journey and feel free to ask questions

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Thanks for your input.  I guess I shouldn't bother to give them a call tomorrow.  I will give it a try after the 61st day.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

I have found that the best advice I have received re/ Amex CLI is relative to new cards.

When you have new cards, it is best to wait 2-3 months to establish the relationship with Amex and show them solid usage and payment patterns. I was approved for both my BCP and my Amex Delta Gold in early November, and CLI was approved just a few weeks ago on BCP.

From what I have seen on the board, you can certainly try for an immediate CLI or try for one after one month, but the best success rate seems to be in giving Amex a chance to get to know you and to try at 2-3 months once the relationship has been better established. It's all about what will net you the best chance for success. Hope this helps someone. Smiley Happy
