Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

You can ask for it of course. Some people get it, some get countered and some denied.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

3X CLI denied on day 60, approved on day 61. Went from 4K to 12K. EX score 711. Tried for CLI via online 5 times before 61 days and got 7-10 day message and immediate email to call. Called after 1st email and told too soon, ignored other 4. Received snail mail letters that said denied due to 60 day, blah, blah.. AOA 5.3 yrs. Oldest account 20.7 years. 1 CO (6.1 years old), 10 180 day lates that are almost 2 years old (student loans). 200+ income yearly. Hope that helps someone Smiley Happy

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

I didn't realilze that if you were denied on Day 60 that you could still be approved for a 3X CLI on Day 61.  Good to know.  I always thought that if you pulled the trigger too early it added like 3 months on to your time before you could be considered.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

My ED card had a starting limit of 15K; I was approved a couple weeks later for Blue ED, 9100. EX Fico was 685; 2% util, no BKs, a couple baddies paid from 1.5 years ago. So I went for the 3x on my ED; went for 45k. Was counter offered 21500. Took it. Am happy, would've loved to see that 45K, but hey, not too shabby. Never had credit in my life. Ever. So I'm enjoying the ride. I always PIF on both, and pretty heavy usage, about 1000 a month on each. Will try in 6 months on my Blue.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

Hey guys, I asked this in another thread but it's most fitting here for the best responses I believe.  I apologize in advance if this was covered prior and buried earlier in this thread!

When requesting a CLI with Amex, is there any downside to shooting high (ie the 3X CLI) even if it seems perhaps a bit too much of a reach?  I know with certain creditors like Synchrony for example it's always best to shoot very high and they'll counter you accordingly, allowing you to walk away knowing you didn't leave anything on the table.  Is this true with Amex as well?

For example, say you have a $10k SL on a BCE or whatever card, and after 61 days want to go for a CLI.  Say you're target is $20k, that is, $20k would be a great limit that you'd be perfectly happy with.  Should one in this case request the 3X CLI and go for $30k in hopes that the counter offer will be $20k, or is asking for just the $20k acceptable?  I guess if I requested $20k and only got $14k or something I'd wonder if I left something on the table not requesting the full $30k

Hopefully this makes some sense.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide

So today was my 61st day and I got approved for a 3xCLI to $3,000. I've seen many people post on here that they get denied for the CLI, especially if it's their first AmEx and they only had a $1k limit like I did. I think maybe AmEx doesn't like seeing so much new activity in that timespan? I had no inquiries or changes to my credit report since my card opening date, and I put about $1,500 in spend on the card. So I wasn't expecting to be denied, and I wasn't!

I don't think it matters. From what I've read, AmEx will just counter if they don't want to give you the full 3x...so I'd always just request all of it. Although keep in mind that you might get asked to submit tax forms if you go over 25k on one card.
