So I went ahead and applied for the card, I thought worst case scenario my score drops 15 points lol and I'll have a 1k limit or something like that.
Well after 30 seconds I got this message
You have a Credit Limit of $4,000 and you may request up to $3,000 in balance transfer funds.
Super excited, this is my highest Limit credit card now and will help a lot when october comes around!! Will update after 61 DAYS!!!
Kinda digging Amex right now.. I was approved for 5K with the BCE back in February with a 663 EX. I tried for the 3X in April and was declined due to a score drop from opening a couple cards. My score has risen to 717, yesterday was day 91 so I pulled the trigger and BAM! 15K. I've only charged around 4 grand total through the card since opening but always paid in full and reported zero at the cut. If you treat them right they'll definately reward..

Congrats on your new AmEx! And welcome to the boards!
So I was shocked to be approved a couple months back for a 15,000 line. Scores was around 698 at the time.
Figured what could I lose to try for the 3x cli. I knew it had been over 61 days.
Put 45,000 for my new requested limit. Was very suprised to see Congrats your new limit is 27,600.
Holy Smokes, I really thought that original approval would only be 500 to 1000 and now I'm at 27,600.
I love this crazy, mixed up credit world we live in. Where I'm denied by USAA and Discover and Amex showers me with love. LOL
Been with Amex about a year now. I have never asked for a CLI (no denials) and it's about to be 61 days for my SPG card. Opened up chat and asked them when I was eligible for a CLI and they said 90 days. ? I even asked them about the 61 day cli and they informed me that it indeed was 90 days. Same exact thing from another rep.
Again, I have never requested or been denied for an amex cli ever.
Has the policy changed? Am I the lone anomaly?

From the sounds of it you should be good to go for a CLI request. Best guess is either the CSRs were misinformed or maybe the way you phrased your question had them misunderstanding you. Only thing is you mention you had the SPG for about 61 days; what other AMEX cards do you have since you've been with them for a year already?
DW just put in for a cli on her Amex BCP she started with 15K and asked for another 5 K approved 5 months scores range 740 to 760. utilization 9% She could have asked for more but try explaining your income is 2 K-1's from LLPs , A c corp that holds a lot of cash but never pays out wages, 2 1099's, and a expense reimbursement. It is too hard to explain.
@ uncleB
I read your previous post about your Amex BCP auto increase to 3k back in December, 2016 after stuck 18 months always denied CLI due your previous history with Amex in the past. I just curious, did you get request another increase 3x CLI 180 days after that? Because i'm pretty much have similar situation as you. I am probably wont bother request for CLi and let them auto CLI ;p Thank you so much.

Hey @Anonymous!
Great question... it seems I'm still saddled with the 17 year old BK7. ![]()
After my BCP auto-CLI ($1k to $3k) I apped for an ED in January to keep my MR points (in case I decide to close my PRG) and I was expecting yet another $1k credit line... you could have knocked me over with a feather when I was auto-approved $8k. ![]()
I tried for a CLI on my Delta Gold shortly thereafter and it was denied... you guessed it, they referenced the old IIBK account; I ended up closing the the Delta in back in May. Since then I've tried (again...) for a CLI on my BCP and it's still denied - after the 7-10 day message I (usually) get an email seconds later that a decision has been made and to call, but I don't bother. The letter they send is always the same "... previous delinquency with an American Express account" (or something to that effect).
So, I've got $3k on my BCP that I use quite often, and $8k on an ED that I only use for Amex Offers. I didn't reallocate since I thought it would help the BCP to get a CLI if I used a higher percent of the credit line, but I've about decided to move forward and shift some of the ED over to the BCP and call it a day.
Also notable, my BCP was approved at the highest APR, but they later gave me the middle APR on the Delta Gold and Everyday. They also offered me the Personal Loan, which I took them up on, so you might say they are sending mixed-signals (LOL).
TL;DR... CLIs seem to be off the table for me, but they are fine with approving new cards/accounts.
Disclaimer: I'm not upset with Amex; I understand that BK has consequences, and I'm very happy to be 'back' at all. ![]()
