I'm at 181 days tomorrow, going to see what I can get with another non-IV CLI. I'm at $35k now, going to start at $50k and back my way down from there. If I can get an approval at $40k, to me that will be a win, as I've always wanted to have a $40k CL card. I'll report back my results!

Does anyone know if a PC resets the initial 3x CLI clock? I approved a $5k BCE Aug 4th from Amex prequal page (wanted BCP but as this would be my first Amex ever I took what I considered a safer bet and went with the prequal BCE) and would be due to hit the luv button on 10/5 but noticed when I browse cards on Amex it shows me the option to request an upgrade to BCP. Tempted to do this so as to maximize our grocery spend but don't want to reset the clock. I'm a couple hundred pages into the thread and haven't seen a clear answer on this.
The only clocks on 3X are that the card you want the CLI on must have been opened for 61 days, and among all of your accounts it must have been 181 days since your last CLI or 91 days since your last denial (for a reason other than asking before the aforementioned 61/181 day threshholds). A PC only changes the rewards terms with Amex so you should be golden.

@Anonymous wrote:Just another data point from a few pages back. My first CLI was from 11K to 33K, required IV. My next CLI required another IV at 99k, and i kept bumping it down until I got to 60K with no IV.
What was the income you provided them with via IV that resulted in the $33k approval? I assume they used the same previous IV for the increase to $60k since you did not provide further IV? Were these CLIs at roughly the 61 Day mark of your account being open and then again 181 days later or so? How was your monthly spend on the card over the course of the first 8-9 cycles during the span of the two CLIs?
@Anonymous Card holder since 2000 or so, 85K yearly income for the previous IV. Second CLI was bout 70-80 days after the first. My first card was Amex classic green card, then upgraded to Blue Classic, then added Delta Skymiles a few years later. Got the Blue Cash Preferred (this card @ 11K limit) a few years ago, maybe 2014 or 2015. The Blue Cash Preferred CLI 11K->33K was the 1st CLI. 33K->60K was 2nd. Monthly spend was our entire grocery budget and some incedental spend at roughly $1K-1.5K per month continuous.
Hope that helps
Stettin, thank you so much for your contribution of data points! My biggest card goals right now are getting $100k+ lines with both Amex and BoA, so if I do the math and adjust for spend on my SPG (around $30k since getting the card 5 months ago) and income, your post gives me great hope that I'm not going to hit an income-to-credit-line wall too soon. Of course this is myFICO and I'll never be happy with what I get, so I'll probably just keep moving the CL goal down the field. LOL
Wanted to share this data point, I didnt know.... After opening a new account and requesting your first cli, you can ask for the second CLI 6 months, 181 days AFTER your account was opened, NOT From your last CLI. I thought i was waiting for febuary for my second CLI, but its actually December.... Guess i missed this part, and thought I would add. Thanks!!

Ok you've lost me. You can request a CLI anytime. Now will they give it to you is another matter. Lol
Once you receive your CLI, it's 181 days till you can request the next. That's for the entire Amex account. Only one CLI per account every 181 days.

Ok guys so I applied for the SPG and was denied due to Bankruptcy go figure... Amex is so confusing, how did they approve me for a cli with the BK but deny me for another card after they approved me for 2 cards in the same day. Do you think I can recon the decision? When I applied for the 2 cards in May and the cli in July I had a fraud alert on my reports and i just removed it right before I applied for the SPG. Idk if that played apart in the approvals but I think Im adding it back.
You may have attempted too soon. I was approved for 2 cards at the end of March and was just approved for the SPG a couple of weeks ago.
Bigger question is how did you get a CLI with a BK? I haven't been successful yet.
AmEx guy I talked to on the phone last night said that a could request another CLI in December, six months after my account was opened. I thought it would be February, 181 days like you said. Idk...beats me. I'm going to go for it though.
Has anybody else experienced this? 🤔🤔🤔
