Thinking of adding a 3rd card to the quiver, what will these scores buy me?

Hi,

03/10/16 EX682 TU690 EQ708 – FICO8

QS WMC 12,300CL - was a $ 300 Platinum on 9/14, 4K CLI on 3/4/16

Venture 20,000CL - sent 3/8/16 have not received it yet

long history, closed mortgage, many car leases but not much with cards, 1 CA that will fall off in 11/17, this is my only derogatory.  looking for 3rd multipurpose card with a different bank as the 2 I have are both with C1. was thinking discover because of CLI SPs and FICO scores and they often use EQ and that is my high score but I am hesitant because it seems like excellent credit is more common to get any sort of decent SL.  I have normal looking pre-approvals with freedom, slate, citi, etc but not discover, just a generic approval.  If I should just garden and stay put then that is also fine, I am patient.  Comments welcome and thanks, this board is a great resource.

Since you have preapprovals with Chase I would go for the Slate or Freedom with them. The Freedom doesn't usually have a large starting limit, though.

If you want a big credit limit you might want to go for a Barclays Arrival Plus, or a Chase cobranded hotel card.

Thanks for the response, the details on the freedom once I filled out the app is

0% Intro APR for the first 15 billing cycles that your Account is open.

After that, 23.24%. This APR will vary with the market based on the Prime Rate.a

Thank seems pretty high huh + HP for a CLI...the barclay seems pretty much like my venture.  I keep going back to discover because of fico and sp cli + they dont use TU it seems

Freedom does not always start with low SL's, although reading posts here SL's with Chase are not predictable. Chase pulled TU for me.

Well here you have it - Discover spooked me, I started getting page after page asking for a lot of personal info.  maybe this is normal but it felt weird.  Simple page with chase and it was done.  I am rebuilding so I am not surprised with 6K - "If this does not meet your needs, you can discuss available credit line options with a Customer Service Specialist when you call to confirm receipt of your card"  Does this ever work?  Would love to start with 10K and be done with it.  I dont care about the apr because I will never carrry a balance.  looks like just the EX was hitmas ckarma did not go off. edit:  forgot I have a trial with cct, no hit registered there - does not look like a hp anywhere, odd

HP may taken a couple of days to show up. And if you want a higher limit, you can ask, but they'll HP you again and there's no guarantees you'll get it.

yeah TU was touched - was instant with karma before.  another HP huh, is there an benefit to doing it now vs waiting until I have some history through it?  I would do a hp for 4K but not if I would if it was much less.  thank you

Re: Thinking of adding a 3rd card to the quiver, what will these scores buy me?

Congratulations on the Freedom card, that's a nice limit. Mine is only $1,500 Smiley Happy

Since it's a HP for the CLI request with Chase, I'd suggest leaving it sit for a while, put up some charges and payment history, then request a large limit like $20k or more, and let them counter. They will be much more likely to go higher, after some history on the account.

Hey there - solid advice that I will act on, thank you. on another note, what in the world is the story with your cards, how do you keep track of all that and you have such high cls on everything, why is the chase so low do you think?

Re: Thinking of adding a 3rd card to the quiver, what will these scores buy me?

First, Congrats. My system is pretty simple: first, I only have 3 cc's. I know when the the due dates are and have all three cards set to auto PIF. All 3 cards report/statement date 3 days after their due date. I don't worry about what balances are reporting unless there is a large purchase that will hit during those days. There is also a difference between usage and utilization. My usage is above 10% every month but utilization is usually reported as 0 - 3% using this system. If I am traveling, doing something extraordinary, etc., I will make a mid-cycle payment(s).
