To Discover or not to...

Fellow myFico'ers,

I'm stuck in a pickle here. My Discover card has hit 1 year exactly and as we know, Discover has a 1 year cycle for cards (1 app per year). I have currently on the existing card (15k). I'm not really sure if I should app for a new one and then combine both or should I just leave it and call it a day. I don't really need it but I sorta want it. Unsure of what to do.

DPs - all 3 CRAs - 740ish

AAoA - 3 years-ish

TCL - about 200k

UTI - 2-3%

Scores - All bureaus 770 +
TCL - Est. $410K

Re: To Discover or not to...

Ehhh I’d personally leave it, even though Discover has been my fav approval since rebuilding.

But if its something you want, go for it. Did you pre-qual? If pre-approved, there have been reports of no additional HP. Also, I should state, combining Discover cards can be a bit tricky. From my understanding, there has to be a CLI offer on one of the cards in order to combine.

Good luck on whatever you decide!

@Anonymous - I did check the pre-qual page - Discover IT and Chrome show. I'm sorta leaning to the leave it part myself but you know that itch is still there. Smiley Very Happy

Re: To Discover or not to...

My spend stinks but for someone who CAN spend and take advantage of dcb, i would do it because you know you will have option to combine the limits eventually and if you do it now, you dont have to wait years from now to do itSmiley Wink

I’m with you on that itch. I also have Disco preapprovals and I’m still indecisive about going for it.

Re: To Discover or not to...

I was supposed to apply for the 2nd card in April when my cashback match ended but keep pushing it off, kinda want to hit 850 now that I'm so close (10-20 points away), and the longer you garden the harder it is to jump the fence. I have submitted the application with Garden Club for hardship waiver, might change my mind if approved.
