My scores have improved steadily since rebuilding from a thin file over the past 6 months. I got in with AMEX in August with the Green card that was preapproved, and a month later apped for the BCE which was declined. EX at the time was 652 with one old negative that fell off since. My EX is now 724 as of Oct. 2 and today the new number was updated on the AMEX Fico page. I've run nearly 2K through the Green card and paid in full early always. I also joined NFCU this month and got approved for the GoRewards at 1600.00
I really want the BCE and wondered if it was a good idea to go ahead and reapply now, since AMEX has my updated EX score. Or should I wait until Nov. 2, which will be 91 days of AMEX membership and 61 days since the first BCE denial. Would it make a difference?
There is no real benefit to waiting especially with the spike in your credit score. Also have shown good spend/payment history as well which is a plus. Only concern is sometimes with new customers AMEX will continue to use the the credit score that was pulled at the time of the original app. Not always but sometimes depsite what AMEX shows on the dashboard. I would go ahead and app but just in case be ready to recon with them stating your new score if they give that as a denial reason. Good luck whenever you do decide to app.
I once was told by AMEX to wait 30 days from denial date until applying again. Some CSRs do not know what they're talking about, sadly.
I say go for it, it will most likely be a SP. I got three cards with AMEX in 2015 and have NOT receive any other HPs on new cards, even on the two i applied for and got approved for this month (that's 2 years after first cards)
Okay, I went ahead and submitted the app. Got an instant denial again, but when I read the secure message it stated the reason was for the old EX score of 652 pulled August 19th. Called for reconsideration and told the CSR, who was very helpful, that my EX score was now 724 and he said it would go in for manual review and I should have an answer in 2 to 5 days.

What did I tell you figures lol but kudos on the recon. Pretty sure once a credit analyst looks over your app you should hear some good news.
Yeah, I think I've seen others post here that AMEX used an older pull for a new app. I hope you're right that there'll be good news after the recon. I decided I'd rather go ahead and take a chance than keep waiting. If AMEX doesn't give me the BCE, I'll focus on growing my other accounts and move my monthly spend to them.
And it's a SP since you're now an AMEX cardholder so no real loss. If the recon is a no go can probably wait it out while you get more credit history and try again in 6 months or so.
That's what I was thinking; no harm in a soft pull. I'll post the results of the recon when I hear back from them, however it turns out.
Nicely done!!! that is a hell of an old score they were using.
I'm certain you'll hear good news...or you can keep checking their status link.
Thanks for the handy status link! Yes, I will keep checking it. Hopefully there will be good news.
