Hi everyone.
Tried the trick and got the pop-up. I entered my last 4 SS digits, etc. and received this exact message:
"Thank you!
Your application is being processed by Comenity Bank.
You will still receive your 2.5 percent discount on this order. You will receive notification by mail within 10 days regarding your application.
Please use another credit card for this order."
I'm guessing that this is not good news, right? Isn't an approval instant using this trick?
Just some background about my credit...
I screwed up my credit many years ago when I was young. Just started to rebuild August 2014 with a secured card from BofA ($1500 limit). Went in kind of blindly, not knowing my scores whatsoever. I've been using the card about $200 monthly on average and PIF every time. My car was recently totaled so I needed a new one. Finally checked my FICO scores (EX 735, EQ 686, TU 587) and applied at a CU (who pulled my best report, EX) right before Christmas and was offered a loan at 9%. Due to an issue with income verification, I didn't finalize the process. Got an offer in the mail from AMEX and was approved last week for an AMEX Everyday ($2000 limit, card is currently on its way). Really needed a car (car pooling and borrowing relatives' cars is no fun) so I decided to just apply for an auto loan from my bank, BofA, since I've been with them for over a decade and have my secured Visa with them in good standing. I was approved a couple days ago for 3.1% interest. Was messing around, reading the forum and decided to try the shopping cart trick and got the pop-up and figured a SP would be ok. And that brings us back to... waiting 10 days for a likely denial.
Anyone get that message but get an approval in the mail? *crosses fingers*
Well, the shopping card trick, like any "preapproval" is never going to be 100%.
I got a pre approval for Victoria Secret, filled it out and got the 7-10 day message. They called asking me 3 security questions like you answer to see your credit reports and then said I was approved, probably identitify verification as other poster said.
Not saying youll get it, but you probably will. (I had to do it just on VS my first Comenity card, not any of the other Comenity cards after VS)
Good luck!

This sounds like a decline. However, why offer the discount? Could be a verification issue. Good luck to you.
Sound more like verification, good luck.
Thanks everyone. Hopefully it's just the identity verification. Guess I'll just have to wait the remainder of the 10 days to see. I'll update when I get the letter.
In the meantime, should I avoid other Comenity offers until this gets resolved, in case it is an identity verification issue?
At least I got my amex card today.

I would call their protection team.
Sounds like Verification to me, especially since you were approved for Amex already. Sometime Comenity sees your old address as your primary.
I finally got the letter from Comenity today.
I was declined.
Apparently, the "name, address, or Social Security Number" I provided was different from the information they used in the pre-approval offer. I don't get how that could be but oh well.
