Asked for a CLI increase on both of these cards:
1. My UW Credit Union Visa (non-rewards) card. This card I have had since 2017, started as a secured card with a $1,000 limit. After about one year, I called in to ask if they would unsecure this card and give me my $1000 back. They said yes. I went into the branch and got a cashier's cheque for $995 written to me (they require $5 in a savings account to remain a member of their credit union, but I already had a separate savings account when I opened it, so now I guess I have two $5 savings accounts, oh well). They also printed me the new unsecured card and gave me a limit of $1500.
----They warned me on the call asking to unsecure the card, that they are going to want a year before they will consider a credit limit increase. Well, it's been over a year since getting it unsecured and I asked for an increase, I just asked for an additional $1000, which would equal $2500. After getting a HARD PULL, I was given a no over the phone for any increase, stating too many recent new accounts and inquiries (almost all have been shopping cart trick cards). I asked them if they would take a SECOND look at it. He said he would have another lender look at my application and call me back.
----The callback came a couple hours later, but it was still a no. The underwriter told me that "it's nothing against you, we just like to see a little more experience with new cards." ****So basically I screwed myself by applying for all of these new shopping cart trick cards just for the purpose of padding to my overall amount of available credit. These cards I NEVER use and don't have really any intention on using.
2. My DCU card (non-rewards) which I got at the beginning of this year with a limit of $3000. After reading a great success post on here just the other day, I asked for an increase. Did it online, did not hear back for over a week so called in today. After being on hold was told it was denied for insufficient experience with DCU, insufficient experience with other cards, etc.
---I have not seen any credit pulls... yet. According to DCU's free monthly credit score service, I have a 673 Equifax as of July 2nd.
I am pretty bummed about both denials. I am a little mad that the main reasons for denial were basically all of these brand new store cards that I just opened to pad my overall credit limits.
OP
Applying for a lot of CCs in a short period is a definite no-no, and applying for a lot of retail cards, especially SCT cards, are at the top of that list. But time heals all wounds. Let the AoYA turn 1 and then apply for a CLI again. And just remember, research cards and only apply for cards you really want. Oh, and no more retail or SCT cards.

Yeah I guess I sort of learned my lesson, but it did help me get my overall limits way up there. I got a ton of SCT/Retail cards and they added thousands of available credit and they are all showing as $0 balances.
I got $7000 with CareCredit, a card I did use for some HABA products at Walmart and I would like to someday get LASEK eye surgery, so at least that one is useful.
