Yeah, I look at it regularly. Says no offers found, as I already have the Platinum and QS1 card.

But, I've heard of people getting no offers and still getting approved..

I also know CapOne is being extremely generous right now and it's killing me that I can't take advantage of it.

Let me help you with this before Nixon gives you advice I don't agree with.

Wait, don't do anything wreckless and add another HP to possibly all 3 bureaus. That sucks. Time heals and helps credit at the same time. Patience is very important. Also, I don't like Capital One so make sure to look around before you are sure you're set on this card. Smiley Happy

1. Funny you mention Nixon, as I have started to read this forum and get more involved, I see his name everywhere and can't help but delightfully enjoy your comment. Nixon, I mean no offense by this, I think you should consider this banter as a form of endearment!

2. I would look for other cards for travel and the likes.. I have a 1.5% cash back already, but I fly anywhere between 6-10 times a year so the travel rewards is very attractive to me. I also know I have a good relationship with CapOne and I think I could establish a much higher CL with them than I could with another company.

Ironically, I work with BofA (consult on-site for them, so closely intertwined, however I'm not an employee of theirs) and I really want to get a card with them, but I have a snowball's chance in hell right now of that for a little while..

Maybe it's crazy, but I think by August this year, I could hit 700. I'm trying so hard to hold out until then, but geez is that tough...

Nixon is a wonderful individual with a different perspective on the credit world.

If you fly a lot you'd definately find a lot of use in travel cards.

A lot of times when you get a card from a different company, the companies you've had before offer you higher-than-normal CLIs to try to convince you to use their cards over your new ones. (IE: I had my GE/Synch card with a 3K CL, I then got my Amex BCE at a 5K limit and less than 3 mos. later I received an auto-CLI up to $4,500.

However there's a difference in APR of like 14 or so points so it really made no difference in my use of the cards.

BofA could be good for you if you get a card with them, especially if you bank with them. I hear this makes a great difference in how they treat you credit-wise.

I started banking with them about 10 months ago. I only have a small checking and savings account with a couple hundred bucks in it that I transfer $50-$100 every month from my other bank to BofA. Intended to fully switch over as WF has NO banks where I now live, but never did. Too much is established in WF and I find benefit as having a long term relationship with them as well. My goal is to be their employee in a little while so I'll probably wait until then to apply for one of their cards (if I end up working for them).

You know, I never really thought about your point of lenders competing with each other and offering a higher credit limit because of it -- that's really a good point. I'll have to take advantage of that. Maybe I'll find another travel card I like.

I also want a prime card, but I know that'll take some time.. Since my CO and collection won't be falling off for a while, how long do you think I should wait before I try for a prime card? Just a specific score like 700 and some cooling time prior to that, or anything else?

It's good to have at least some banking history with BoA. I have seen huge differences in CL's with similar scores simply because one banks with them and another does not.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a travel card for them to "compete" with one-another. In fact, I'd suggest getting a non-travel card before trying for the venture.

I think 6 mos, is good.

I'm asking the rest of myfico forums here, does Discover It sound like a good card for Vinchenzzzochi? To me, it seems like a good match and then he can build up from there to Venture. (Please take this with a grain of salt as this is just my guess at what card might benefit you)

Over all else, patience will help! Smiley Happy

Haha I appreciate the Discover It suggestion, but I actually applied for it 2 months ago and was denied. I hadn't realized it was a card for 700+ and I received something in the mail that made me think about it. Unless there's multiple and I applied for the wrong one..

Score was 613 at the time, they pulled EQ (myFICO had the same score for me when they pulled).

Reasons not approved:

SERIOUS DELINQUENCY

% OF BALANCE TO CREDIT LIMIT TOO HIGH ON REVOLVING ACCOUNTS    <-- this has since been fixed significantly

PROPORTION OF LOAN BALANCES TO LOAN AMOUNTS IS TOO HIGH        <-- what the heck? I have been out of school for two years and JUST got done paying interest, now FINALLY paying principal... $18k left out of about $21k

You can see I'm not too happy about the last one, I called up to try recon, got nothing.

I think I have a much better shot now, but still not enough of one to reapply, and especially so soon.

EDIT:
Just out of curiosity, I checked pre-approval for Discover It on their site:

"Your offer

Here's The Card We Found For You

The Discover it® card is changing the game."

Which to me, sounds like a very misleading message.. I don't think that's a real pre-approval, seems like it's a "we couldn't find you an offer but we think you'd like this".

Yes you are right. Discover pre-approval will get you a card offer if you are Mickey Mouse with SSN 1234 Smiley Sad  - try it!

I think it is a good idea to garden for a while as this Venture card is not going anywhere. You have 2 new Cap1 cards already and just recently got a nice CLI. I would not app right now for any card but work on the baddies and give it at least 6 months more  time with your present cards. Also see if your scores come up a bit during that period. Approval chances will be better. Sorry I know that is not what you wanted to hear Smiley Sad

Hey this is why I love the myFICO community.. All of you are being honest with me because you want to help me be better financially. I couldn't be more appreciative of that.

You're right, it's not what I would like to hear but unfortunately I didn't make some wise decisions when I was younger and I have to change that. I mean usually I don't share this with people, but I have a charge off because shortly after I got that card, I became homeless and used it to literally to have a means to eat. I'm not afraid to share that because I've come a long way.

A year ago, my credit score was somewhere around 515. With the help of the myFICO community, I'm somewhere near 630. That is because of all of you.

Anyway, I digress. I will be sitting in the garden until probably August or so at least.. I think this is like my first few solid months of lower util as I didn't really understand how important of a number it was, prior it was around 60%-70%, now it'll eventually be under 10% maybe I'll skip on venture for a different travel card. I would like to diversify my financial portfolio as well while I'm at it, but I just need to find a good card for it. Maybe I'll even go with United's card since I typically fly them. Isn't AMEX also big on travel cards (thinking of having near 700 before applying)?

Yeah I've gone through that also, my scores in July 2013 was around 510. I'd wait a little bit for your profile to show more payment history and bring utilization down before  even trying for Venture. I know it's tempting, with a $10K SL Venture it will help tremendously.
