I decided to write a snail-mail letter to the address on my denial letter. I figured it couldn't hurt! Mailed it a few days ago and I will update this posting once I get a reply, for better or for worse. I believe my denial was more based on some computerized review of my file and that no human has taken time to see the credit factors. Moreover, I also believe the data used may have caused some undue concern, such as having large balances post on my AOD FCU Visa card recently (even though I paid them off before due.) I countered some of the assumptions in my denial letter and offered to provide further documentation.
I'm hoping I was able to point out enough extenating factors and interest in a Navy FCU relationship that they may approve me anyway. I feel like I'm in uncharted waters since I don't remember seeing a lot of discussion about people reconning Navy or having success with it.
I get this as well! When I hit my 6 month mark last month, I applied for the more rewards card and got denied, same reason. I was hard pulled so I went ahead and applied for CLI on my go rewards (2500 limit) and got it up to $3500, then went ahead and did another CLI to see if it'd get higher than that and they went to $4000, and said I've reached their internal unsecured credit limit same when I got denied for the more rewards. My nrewards just graduated this week to $2,000 limit so now I'm at $6k total...so I don't get it? If I reached the limit getting denied for a higher CLI and even another card, they still graduated my secured to a 2k limit.
Sometimes NFCU can be weird. Have you tried product changing? I'm thinking about sending 1k limit from CR to GoRewards and then product changing to flagship if it's even possible...I'll have to ask the CSR or something. Still grateful for Navy Federal though. I'm still shocked they gave me a $2500 limit card with no credit history still haha..thankfully I'm not a dumb 20/21 year old

No, and I have no interest in product changing quite honestly. I applied with Navy after I had a lot of other great cards, so many of their cards don't offer me much more than I get elsewhere. The Platinum with the low, low APR was the single card that really stood out to offer me something I didn't have -- a super-low APR card. I got the lowest rate and it's since gone down further to 5.99% as the prime rate declined.
I did the recon letter. If that is unsuccessful, it's no biggie for me. I know they will come around as I have longer membership status with them and my new accounts age off. I will wait them out, then reapply in a year or two or three and they will open up. Meanwhile, I have plenty of other cards and other lenders to work with! Sometimes lenders are more generous if you play hard-to-get.
One day, they'll probably start bombarding me with offers to apply for the Flagship Rewards if I wait them out long enough! Lol.
5 days ago I app'd for a navy auto loan and approved for 44k at lowest apr available. The next day I hit 101/4, requested 25k CLI on my MR Amex (15k CL) and waited 3 days to see a 4K CLI to 19k. I then app'd for the Platinum and auto denied. Could be due to auto app but Still waiting for denial letter and I'll update this post with reason codes.

I Bet you learned that from @AverageJoesCredit with His PenFed

Congrats on your success with the auto loan and the CLI! That $4K is typical right now, so you did well. Sorry to hear about the Platinum denial. As noted in this thread and elsewhere, Navy has tightened up their underwriting a bit. You might try a reconsideration as well. How long have you been a member?

ive been a member for about 9 years. Just waiting to see denial reasons and likely will send a recon. I’ll keep you updated and hope to hear some good news on your recon letter. Thank you.
