you are welcome! Fingers crossed
The saga continues - I went into the branch today. Long story short, because my prior application had been denied they said they couldn't do anything unless I reapplied in the branch (giving them a copy of my DL and SS card), which would lead to another HP. I have tons of recent inquiries and my scores have gone down a bit, but I decided to pull the trigger anyway. No immediate decision. I called the status line immediately upon leaving, and it said I have two open applications (they had said in branch that the first app was closed). The recording gave me 7-10 day messages for both. So, at this point I'm assuming that is a denial, but who knows. Wouldn't the branch rep have been able to tell me that?
The other interesting thing that came up in the branch is that they have me in their system (with an extremely old address, maybe triggering the verification process). I've never had any Chase products personally, but I had forgotten that I was authorized to sign on my ex-husband's Chase business account about 5 years ago. I have no idea whether that account was closed in a favorable status, but there were some legal proceedings surrounding my exes business that could have triggered some extra scutiny if I'm associated with that account.
Sometimes tellers can't see beyond what's on their screens. The first app is in place stil pending verfication as you knew walking in. They should have simply picked up the phone and called the fraud dept. to find out that they needed to fax the 2 forms of ID to them to clear the hurdle.
Give it a day or two if they did indeed fax the docs over to them and then call the backdoor number to get it sorted out.

The rep was actually pretty helpful and just as confused as I was about what was going on. She did call and was told by whoever she talked to on the phone that I had to reapply and submit the application in person. She scanned my id and SS card, loaded them into some special system, and gave me a reference number to use if I have to call back in.
I would be suspect of it all at this point. Keep an eye on your Chase dashboard for new accounts popping up. Give them the weekend to sort it out and call Monday if you're not getting any results either approval or call from them to verify things.
Well, I got my letter re the second in-branch app and it says I was denied because I have too many recent inquiries and I have opened another CC recently. I am at 4/24, my most recent card opened earlier this month. I don't think I 'm going to bother with a recon given that I have been approved for other cards and don't really need the Chase card. I really just wanted resolution on the identity issues and to know if I would have been approved lol.
Garden your new (and old) accounts for a few months, then try again - I'd bet if you lay low and don't apply for any new credit for a while, Chase will give you another chance after maybe 3-6 months.
So I couldn't help myself and called the recon line just to see what they could tell me about my denial. The rep told me that my in-branch (2nd app) was rejected because I had applied for the same card within 30 days (again, that was what the rep told the banker in the branch was my only option). He said that we could keep working on my initial app and transferred me again to the verification group. Verification guy told me that my SSA verification form had been rejected first due to no signature, but then saw that I had signed it and said that it was rejected because I had crossed something out. Anyway, he said he was going to reopen the first application and submit it for recon so I didn't waste my hard pull. Nevermind that I have already had a second hard pull for the in-branch app (done at their instruction) that was rejected. He told me to go into a branch and talk to a banker again, so they could print another SSA verification form for me to complete. He promised to put detailed notes on the file so whoever the banker reached would know exactly what to do. Of course, that didn't happen. Banker recognized me from last week immediately and was super helpful - she spend an hour on the phone with the CSR/verification trying to explain the situation, the fact that she had uploaded a copy of my SS card, etc. She even told them I was going to file a complaint if they didn't get it sorted today and suggested to me to possibly dispute the second HP. So we filled out the second SSA verification form together, dotting every i and crossing every t and then emailed it directly to her. So now I am waiting again lol. Poor banker was so embarrassed by her company's inability to figure all of this out. I'm really off to garden for a while, but just can't seem to let this go until they have actually reviewed my application on its merits :-)
I understand the frustration. I spent a total of 46 days chasing BBT on a 2nd approval that I had proof of them approving. We went back and forth on it for several weeks, escalting, opening cases, and so on. I never did get any notofication other than the card showing up on day 46.
This is a bit different as you've been in limbo and not having an approval in hand to dispute with them. It's the principle of the whole process of applying, supplying the supplemental docs, getting bad advice from the local branch, spending a few hours of your time on it, and seeing things to fruition with some decision other than it dropping through the cracks w/ a bogus answer. I don't see why they need the SSA-89 if you provided your actual SSN Card for verification but, like Amex and their 4506-T requirement for income verfication and not accepting anything else I suppose it comes down to the red tape they have in place for several years.
I think if they're going to put both you and themselves through the hassle of doing all of this you ultimately will end up with a card in hand. If you were on the fence of an appoval there wouldn't be so many hoops to jump through... they would just deny it and move onto the next app in queue.
You're on the right track - you might as well see this one through to the end, you've already had a HP (well, two I guess) so you have nothing to lose.
I think it's promising, that they haven't rejected your app for any qualifications-related reasons. It sounds like it's purely an ID verification issue, so that tells me have have decent chances for an approval once all this is squared away.
