Walmart mastercard

I'm just curious if anybody would share some information regarding the walmart MC. I currently have their store card with a 5k limit, all of my credit scores are 720 or higher. I do have a lot of inquiries due to a car loan gone bad (Dealer said I was good to go, then a couple of days later found out the loan was actually denied and needed to find another company.) Right now, I have in the neighborhood of 40 inquiries (Judge if you willSmiley LOL) I can not get approved for the mastercard, I have asked time and time again for a review of my account to be upgraded and always comes back as a no. I was told a couple of times to apply again and I do, but get declined due to me already having the store card. Was just curious for any suggestions or helpful advice.

-Thank you

Re: Walmart mastercard

Upgrades with Sync are a roll of the dice 99.999% of the time.  Just wait it out or close your store card and reapply when you're safely over 720.

Otherwise you're just wasting your time and HP's.

Re: Walmart mastercard

Indeed. I'm just nervous to close them and re-apply because I like my limit. I'd never spent 5k in that store, nothing is worthy of that much but its still a good figure to have. Although, I truly hope to get an upgrade on my walmart and JCP card.

Re: Walmart mastercard

They will pre-approve you for a Sam's Club MC if you are above 720.

AFAIK, I've never heard of any Sync card upgrading upon request, so I'm afraid your efforts might be for naught.  What is the reason you want the MC version of the card?   Are you just looking to replace store cards?

I had a Wally store card, and the only special feature I really liked about it was the cashover option.  However, once I got my Discover It, it basically rendered my Walmart card useless, since that can can be used for cashover at Wally, Sam's, and many major grocery store chains.   I've never used the in-store promo financing for Wally, and this was before they offered any cashback.   Even now, only the 3% cashback at walmart.com is competitive.    So if I were, I'd probably just hang tight and see if you get an upgrade offer.   You may find that there are other cards out there that meet your needs just as well, or better.

Re: Walmart mastercard

I have their Mastercard.   It's like 26% and no benefits.  It has a 10K limit so I keep it for utilization.   Be careful about closing one Wal-Mart card in the hopes of opening another on (MC).   If you close a Wal-Mart card you are locked out for one full year before you can have anohter one.  This applies to Lowes and I assume their other retail accounts.

Re: Walmart mastercard

I have had Waly Card for 2 years now and recently they send me a MC upgrade invitation that is going to take place in next month or so!

If you keep it long enough most likely they'll going to upgrade you to MC version.

I was going to say pretty much the same thing.  I have seen 2 or 3 mass upgrades over the last year, and got a letter about 6 weeks ago telling me I would get a new MC in April.

I have to say, though, that I don't really see much use with the MC over the store card,  I'll certainly take it, but can't see myself using anywhere but WalMart.

Have to agree there, however I saw an article few weeks ago that Walmart.com wants to compete or have a similar online system as Amazon.com! So its worth to wait and see how it goes.

Yes, I closed my Sams Clkub store card yesterday and during the process it said I could not be approved for a new one within 12 months if I closed it.

So I would advise the OP to not close the WM store card. I'm pretty much in the same boat, WM store card since Feb. 2016, $6k limit, and would prefer to have the MC. But I'll wait for an invite to upgrade.
