Something to keep in mind with WF - they tend to use Experian Bankcard v2 FICO scores for cards... (fairly uncommon and may not be very close to your FICO 8 scores).

Wells Fargo definitely seems to like a relationship with them when it comes to approving CC apps. That's not 100% certainty, but they do tend to decline some people strictly based on it. I opened up a checking & savings account, signed up for direct deposit, secured Visa card, and was approved for both their Rewards Visa and Amex within 12 month's of having my accounts opened. I had a thin file initially and that's why I went with a secured product to start with them. All worked out well for me. Within 12 month's I've got every CC I ever wanted, 150K in CL's, and 750+ scores. Wells Fargo got me started. US Bank has not offered me an unsecured card yet, going on 19 months. I'm about to close it as I have no use for it anymore.
Did your Wells Fargo secured card report as a secured card?
I bank with them and I cannot get approved for their rewards card. It's going to be a very long time before my score will be high enough. I'm thinking the secured card might be a good way in, as long as it doesn't report as secured.

It really doesn't matter if a CC reported secure or non-secured;on your CR.
Is there a reason you believe a CC reported as secured would cause an issue? If so please explain I'm all ears😃 LOL!
I was going to try to explain my thinking and it just sounded very foolish. So....I'll just say that WF recently hurt my feelings when they denied me for their new rewards card. I don't know why I want in with WF. I guess because I bank with them anyway. I was just trying to decide if it was worth it to have a low limit secured card reporting when I don't even need another card to report.
It's ridiculous, I know. I suppose it doesn't really matter how it reports. But I'm still curious. lol
@Harvey26 wrote:Applied for Wells Fargo Rewards Visa and was declined due to too many recent credit inquires and as I explained to the gentleman is that I have already talked to EQ about the inquires cause not all of them were done by me, he then proceded to tell me that my balances on my credit cards where high compared to the limits, I then told him that I pay all my credit cards in full every month, I said you can see my checking account you can see the payments leaving my account. He then said ok we will resubmit for reconsideration and I was kind of upset because why say I am pre approved and then you decline me like that is ridiculous. Then I asked what my credit score was he told me that he couldn't not tell me the exact number that he could only tell me high 700s. I was like what kind of business is this to myself. But does anyone know of recon number to call to speak with an analyst or someone to explain my issue too and has anyone had any sucessful recons with them..
I've have had a checking and savings account with Wells Fargo since 1992 and it took me 23 years to finely get a credit card with them,I was able to get the Amex world propel card 2 years ago,At first it was declined and than I was able to speak to a senior underwriter who took time to go over my credit report, assets I had in Wells Fargo ,my yearly salary ,I was approved for $3000.00 and I have used the card quite a bit,Now my limit on the card sits at $25,000
There's definitely more bad than good said about WF here. Most people are not happy with them at all. I was able to get in with them initially with a 2500 limit that had grown to a little over 40k. I had a lot of inquiries during this time but that didn't stop them from increasing my limits. I've reached my plateau with them apparently though.
I have had a secured card with Wells fargo since April 2014 along with a checking and savings account. I use the card constantly, never been late or over the limit in the almost 3 years I have had the card, more often than not I paid the card off every monthly but even when I didnt pay it completely off it was always WELL over the min pmt. My checking and savings accounts have always been in good standing, and since getting this secured card, I have been approved for other banks unsecured cards and received invitational limit increases numerous times. Since I began working on building my credit back up (2014 when I got this card) I have improved my credit score by over 200 pts, however Wells Fargo will NOT graduate me to an unsecured card, increase the limit on the secured card, OR approve me for an unsecured card (just completed an application yesterday as a matter of fact...denied.) Now in their defense I will admit I recently bought a car and have quite a few inquiries due to shopping around...and for the first time in the past 3 years I have allowed my balances to go just above 30% of my credit limit. But my debt to income ratio, the relationship I have (or thought I had) built with them, payment history (I have one collection account 6 year old hospital bill for $524), and other credit accounts all in good standing, still they won't budge for me. Yes, the card does report as "secured" which I wasn't happy with when I first got the card, but I do know that has NO effect on your score, from what I have learned, and experienced myself, for lenders basing credit decisions on more than just your score and take the time to review the actual report, I feel it actually shows that you care about building a solid credit history. Just my 2 cents.
