What are my chances of getting an AMEX?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to posting but have been silently reading other post on the forum for some time now. So here is my question, what are my chances of me getting an AMEX? I am a college student with an AAoA of 1 year 1 month. My utilization at the moment is 87% because I needed to book an emergency flight to Puerto Rico but I just paid off every single account so I am waiting for the updated scores next month (August) the only thing I have  high are the inquiries which I have 7 because the first 3 banks didn’t approve my student loans but the 4th did. I have 3 credit cards (Discover it Chrome, Wells Fargo College Cash Wise Card and the CapOne Journey Student Card). My current income is about $25k a year. I really want a AMEX card it doesn’t matter which one is it, even the green card will be great. So what are my chances?

Thanks Everyone for the Replies! 😁

Hi there! Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but could you tell us why you want an American Express card so badly?

Seven inquiries aren't that high.  Are all your inquiries on your Experian credit report?  American Express only pulls Experian.

As long as your other accounts are in good standing with no derogatories and you've reduced your utilization to a reasonable number (less than 28.9 percent) I'd think you have a good chance of approval.

If your Experian Fico 8 is at least 680 and you have low util, you can apply for one of the Delta cards which has relaxed underwriting. It will give you a great SUB with SkyMiles that could help you if another travel emergency comes up.

American Express has a pre-qualified offers site: https://www.americanexpress.com/us/credit-cards/check-for-offers/

Re: What are my chances of getting an AMEX?

Check the prequal after your reports update. I got a PRG with 680 EX (and low utilizatrion).

I agree with what has been said - once your scores update, check the prequal and see if the APR is a number or a small range. Their prequal are generally very reliable.
