What credit score should I have before apply to AMEX?

Pretty sure my score was in the 640ish range when I got the Blue Delta card with a 1k SL on it, 6 months later they upgraded me to the Delta gold along with a $500 CLI. That was about 7 years ago though.

I did a prequal and applied when my EX was on 706, instant approval with $3k CL. Note that this is my first usable card with high CL.
