Ok so I have been busting my back to get my credit good enough to buy the house I've been renting for the last 4 years and I'm officially closing on the 22nd!! I got my checking account set up with Navy about a month ago. I want to apply for a CC with them once my house closes. Should I wait until my mortgage is showing on my reports? I've heard they like seeing real estate trade lines. Do you NFCU gurus think I'd have better odds with the mortgage showing or does it really not matter?
@Anonymous As soon as you close you can apply I have seen 10K SL + with navy federal before even buying my home. You should be perfectly fine to apply once you close.
If you are going to apply, do it as soon as you have your keys in hand.
I would not wait for the Mortgage to report. Also would not do it before you close.
Congrats on the future of owning your own home & Happy Holidays.

+1 on this. Don't change ANYTHING on your file until you close - depending on the bank, they will do another pull a day or two before closing. I had a mortgage loan officer threaten to beat me down for just thinking about major purchase on a CC two weeks before closing! LOL
And congrats on the new home!

Lol thank you! Yes I am firmly planted in the garden just waiting haha.
An important point is to notify all credit bureaus of your new address as quickly as possible once you close.. Doing this will help prevent those "unable to verify identity" issues
Good luck
