I was in a similar position 2 months ago; I accumulated $11k in cc debt over the years with an average of 23% apr; then last year I was determined to take myself out of the hole with focus, sacrifice and more control of my finances. I reduced the 11k to 6k; this forum kept me motivated and still does. Then 2 months ago I started looking for a loan alternative; this would consolidate all the cc debt in one payment with half apr. also my scores jumped +20 points. I went with Marcus by Goldman Sachs, very smooth process, probably one of the easiest and fastest out there with direct deposit. Keep in mind if you apply for debt consolidation with them 70% will have to go to cc debt and the remaining 30% goes to your personal account.
this is my suggestion, worked for me and I think will also work for you. I wish you all the best.
I'd wait until more of the debt is paid off, you have better odds with lower utilization
I think im going to wait and pay the debt down as mentioned above. With the CK offers being likely bogus/fluff, it makes more sense to wait until im a better candidate
thanks all.
For reference; I was carrying 68% balances on 3 cards, about $150 in interest monthly. I did 1 balance transfer to BoA but only a small amount. It's important that you specify what the loan is for because they do manual reviews. A loan is less hassle and more stable than moving balances around, but that's just me.
now I pay $25 in interest a month and can focus on paying the debt sooner. Making extra payments goes to the principal; no fees. I have a 36mo and plan to pay off in 12mo
