Not true in my case. I was under this impression, but I received the sign-up bonus for my EveryDay card even though I was already an Amex cardholder that received the sign-up bonus for my SPG card.
Anyway OP, if you don't mind an AF and aren't part of any loyalty program, I think you can rack up MR points pretty fast with the EDP card if you put heavy use on it.
