I am new to checking my credit scores, collecting my card's points, and cash back. So I am not looking specifically at any one category(travel, food, etc) for my next card. I am looking at which bank is best to establish a relationship with.
I currently have a local cu card(6 months), Amex Prg(1 month), and Discover(1 month). I will probably wait about 2 months for my scores to go up a little. My EX fico 8 at app of amex and disc was 720. I didn't have TU fico since my cu cc wasn't 6 months yet. After app of those 2 cards and my cu cc reporting at 36% from 15%, my ex fico dropped to 674. I have now gotten a TU fico(but my cu cc ws still reporting 15% at the time) and it was a 745. So I assume that'll drop a bit once it goes to 36%. I have already paid that balance off so next month should be good with that drop and 2 new cards reporting.
I just joined USAA and Navy Fed this weekend. I am waiting to join PenFed until my scores go up. Should I consider trying for one of those cards first to establish the relationship or go for a Chase since I'm currently sitting at 3/24. I am also considering being added as an AU on parent's card to help get my AAoA and AoOA up. That shouold also help my scores. But if that counts against me I was thinking of going for Chase first. I tried their pre approval link and didn't get anything. Or even a capital one perhaps?
Also my Discover was approved for 10k SL. Is there a correlation between card approval limits to your current limits? Or could I still get like 500, 1000 since my profile is limited?
Despite what people think, most banks don't care about relationships. There are some out there though like NFCU, BofA, Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank, and Amex that do.
I guess in my head I understood what I was saying but didn't convey it properly. I am fairly new to this. And I notice when people ask about which bank/card next the response is usually along the lines of it depends what your spend and needs are. I don't have specific needs. Just living my life the same but trying to put it on the cards and get what I can out of it. Right now I am putting most on my PRG to hit my initial spend. Once that is over I'll be looking more at the categories to maximize my points.
As far as asking about which cards, what I meant was that I know that BOA, NFCU, Penfed, Chase, Citi seem to be most recommended. So just trying to see which people feel the priority should be on. That is why I mentioned being 3/24. Someone might feel that BOA would be best choice but because I'm 3/24 they might say go Chase then BOA. Possibly even the next 2 Chase before a BOA because I would be frozen out of Chase for a while. Or maybe Chase doesn't even look at someone like me so therefore go straight for a different one. And then based on the issuer they recommend which card from that would be a decent yet not out of reach card to look at when the time comes. Obviously if someone says Chase, with my scores and limited file I wouldn't get a CSR. So would that person recommend a Freedom Unlimited in that situation where I would think Slate would be the highest card to go for.
I hope that clears up what I was asking. And I had always thought you wnated to establish a relationship. So after the last 2 posts I guess that doesn't matter anymore.
