Which card is my best bet for approval

Hi!

I currently have an AmEx BCE card with a 10k limit that I got last month. I'm looking to apply for another card and was contemplating whether I should apply for another AmEx or a different company. Does anyone have any suggestions whether it would be wise to apply for another AmEx now and if not, which cards are good for getting high limits on straight off the bat?

I got approved for the 10k initial limit AmEx w/a fico of 740. My fico is now 769. Equifax is 743 and TU is 754.

Thanks in advance!

Wow! Congrats! I wish I had your scores. As long as you meet the 5/24 rule, you can pretty much apply for any Chase card you want.

A lot of people have been getting approved for Chase CSP or Freedom Unlimited. Their Co-Branded cards don't have their 5/24 rule yet. I've seen many on these boards who have multiple co-branded accounts from them.

Good luck!!

I'd go for a Chase Sapphire Preferred if you're under the 5/24 rule.  That would pretty much would be my advice for anyone under 5/24 go for Chase first and get them while you can, then get the others.  For Amex I would do the 3x CLI on your current card, then get the Blue Cash Preferred and do it on that card 6 months later.  If you travel also look at anything with a great bonus and rewards.  Also, the Venture (the standard one with annual fee) seems to have very high starting limits right off the bat with excellent credit.

Re: Which card is my best bet for approval

I agree that the Chase Sapphire is a good card to get while you're under the 5/24 rule. And is a good travel card. But you should really look into getting a card that will benefit you. Are you looking to travel? Then look at a card that will gain rewards for that like the Chase Sapphire or one of the Amex Member Rewards cards. If you don't travel, then look for a simple cash back card, like the Citi Double Cash etc.. So figure out what types of rewards/benefits you want from a card then go from there. What works for me might not benefit you. Good luck in finding the right card.

As others have stated, definitely look at Chase first.

Re: Which card is my best bet for approval

Thanks so much for all your help!

I don't travel and I like the idea of 5% cash back in revolving categories instead of unlimited 1.5% cash back (since I don't spend that much) so I app'ed for Chase Freedom and got instant approval for 10k!

How long should I wait before applying for another card?

I'd look at 1 more card to get yourself up to three.

Where does the majority of your monthly spend go? If you tell us that, we could give you another suggestion to maximize rewards.

Congrats on the chase!

Re: Which card is my best bet for approval

Most of our (my husband and I) monthly spending goes towards bills and groceries. We don't usually buy stuff that we don't need.

We are in the process of buying a house (only in my husband's name so new credit cards are okay for me) so we will be buying household stuff like furniture, new TV etc.
