Re: Who would give the highest credit limit?

if he wants no annual fee and 0 percent 12 months, then go ventureone. some people find it pointless but i would think he would get at least a 10k credit line on that instatnly.

I'm posting this for a friend. He has a FICO of 745 per his Walmart and Discover Cards. He also has a Citi Card, Lowes and a Regions Bank Card. He purchased a home last year and has 80,000.00 equity, very low payments in porportion to his income, pays his credit cards in full every month, so he has zero balances, however he doesnt have very high limits on any of his cards. His Walmart Mastercard is his highest limit and its only 4600.00. The others range from 1,600.00 to 2,700.00  He now needs a credit card with at least 4000.00 limit because of some expenses he is about to have.

I have read about a Duck Card giving high starting limits but I dont know what that is.

Any suggestions?

I forgot to mention he wants a zero interest card. He is wanting to turn his "man cave" into full blown a home theater and doesnt want to wipe out his savings account to do it. .

Which store (if a specific store) is he planning to purchase from? There may be a card such as Best Buy, might have a 0% APR to go along with the purchase. I don't know specifically, it just seems like these types of promotions for large purchases directly from the store are quite common, worth including in the comparison shopping questions.

Re: Who would give the highest credit limit?

He is planning on buying from a local store that a friend of his owns and is willing to give him the family/employee discount. They dont take American Express. His other cards have low limits as I said, Walmart Mastercard is his highest limit and its only 4,600.00. His Discover limit is only 2700.00 and thats only because they recently gave him a 1000.00 increase. He paid for everything with cash for many years until he decided he wanted to purchase a home. He didnt have bad credit, he had no credit. So he began the process of establishing and really hasnt had credit cards for very many years, hence his low limits. None of his cards started him out with high limits and he still has low limits.. I think Citi gave him his highest starting limit and it was only 2100.00 and they've never raised it. He needs a card that will at least start him off with a 4000.00 limit. I thought credit card companies look at the limits you already have and go by those. He doesnt want to waste a bunch of hard pulls and any limit under 4000.00 will be of no use to him.

He could use the cards he already has and do a balance transfer if for instance American Express would give him a high enough limit. I've heard Capital One is giving better limits these days and I know from personal experience they will recon if you dont like the limit you are given but would they recon enough? I suppose it a roll of the dice at this point.

I appreciate everyones input. I'm glad I came here to check about the Duck card because I almost told him to try that then decided I better make sure first. I guess I was hoping if the Duck card was no longer an option there would be some other card out there notorious for giving high limits. You folks always give the best advice.

Re: Who would give the highest credit limit?

IF he's eligible I would definitely suggest the CUs, Penfed, NASA, Alliant, NFCU. They offer fairly generous SLs, promo APRs that escalate to very reasonable rates. Cap1 QS or V1 are also options with promo APRs and decent SLs.

They're all "quirky"...NASA wouldn't give me the time of day, Alliant & PenFed pretty much backed the truck up to my door and said, help yourself.

Yep.. That gravy train crashed a long time ago...

And, boy did it crash big time for a lot of people... Thankfully, mine survived!

Train Wreck 2.gif

To be fair, I presume those passengers on the Duck Card Express who actually live in Oregon were allowed to switch trains, are now steaming through verdant green valleys, viewing antelope frolicking in the distance, and were not subjected to the flaming, twisting, smoking wreckage flying off the non-existent bridge? So if OP and friend live in OR, the Duck (or Beaver) cards would be an option.
