Good Customer Service and 5% rewards {alternative to Chase Freedom}

Great rotating cash back category offers
Great customer service (YMMV)
Good benefits for a no AF card (Return protection, purchase protection, etc.)
You can go on the Discover website and look under Member Benefits and you can see all the perks in detail
+1
That is what I like as well.

I think ShopDiscover is really the major advantage of the card, generally one of the higeher cashback portals.
While the 5% gets people excited, it's capped very low ($1,500 a quarter means a max of $75) and rotation is, um, stupid! (Benefits cc rather than you, as the category might not be right when you need it).
And on the Freedom side, if you have an additional card such as CSP or Ink, the points earned on the Freedom can be transferred to travel partners, potentially greatly increasing the value.
ShopDiscover is simply AMAZING.
I never shop at stores anymore because I know I can get 5%-10% off of many big retailers!

I will just stick to my quicksilver card.
Nothing wrong with doing that, but the quicksilver is a 1.5% card. For certain purchases (e.g. Amazon right now), the Discover IT is a better choice. The Discover cards categories change and it defaults to 1% when not spending on a 5% category, so for other purchases the Quicksilver is a better choice. The Discover IT can work great when one wants to maximize cash back or points due to its 5% categories. When combined with other 5% rewards cards (US Bank Cash+, Barclays Sallie Mae, Chase Freedom, etc), the Discover IT allows for an optimized cash back or cash back/points strategy.
If you want a simple 1 card strategy consider the Citi DoubleCash. Much like the Quicksilver card, but effectively 2% cash back.

He has the QuicksilverONE and that card has a $39 annual fee that in other words means $3.25 each month, so even if he spends enough money to get let's say $4 dollars in rewards each month then he is actually just getting $0.75 Cents in rewards because again the card is costing $3.25 a month just to have it, i think a better choice from CapOne would've been this one .... http://www.capitalone.com/credit-cards/journey-student/
