Thank you.

You do not need those limit because you already have 800+ in all three bureaus.  I think for people with 800+, they can just enjoy their hard earned excellent credit.

Needing (not just wanting) high limits on cards has NOTHING to do with low vs high score, it has to do with an individual's spend. My little brother has an 800+ score and his total credit line is <$5000.

Hello, everyone,

Currently, all of my credit cards are more than 10,000 credit limit, except for my chase freedom unlimited.  It is the first credit card I have ever had with a limit of 1,500, never changed after 3 years.  I have tried make small purchases and pay in full for several months and make huge purchases and pay in full for several months, but no credit limit increase at all whatever.

1.  Is it because I got this card during my school years, so the credit limit will stay this forever?

2.  The lady told me I can convert to freedom flex, but does that will help on possible future credit limit increase?

3.  The lady told me it will be a hard inquiry for credit limit increase request, so I will never request it.  This is my oldest card so I will not close it.  What can I do to have higher credit limit on this card, hard inquiry is not an option for me.

4.  My early cards like discover, american express, synchrony, all have much higher credit limit now, and I started them all with very low limit, but why not chase?  Is this only me or everyone?  Please share if you have low limit chase card earlier.

No negatives on my credit report.

Thank you, everyone.

Sometimes, if you put enough spend through, Chase will auto CLI, but you may just have to bite the bullet and take an HP at some point. Chase isn't super generous with their limits in my experience.

@FalconSteve

I learned it the hard way.

You have a Cash Magnet with 10,000 starting limit and increased to 20,000 after 36 hours, that is so interesting.  How does that work?

credit limit application

We all know it is a hard inquiry to apply chase credit limit increase.

Currently, all of my reports are frozen.  Chase told me I need to unfreeze all reports first before apply for credit limit increase.  I called three credit bureaus, experian and transunion told me even though my credit is frozen, banks that I have current relationships with still able to hard pull my credit even though it is frozen.  Equifax told me banks that I have current relationships cannot hard pull my credit if my report is frozen.  Plus chase said they cannot process my request until I unfreeze all of my reports.  Like always, everyone has something to say differently, and I will never trust their words 100%.

So, they question is clear, if all of my reports are frozen, can banks and any financial institutions that I am currently having relationships with hard pull my credit without me unfreezing my credit?  Is different credit bureaus have different policy or it is the same for all credit bureaus regarding this?  Does that apply to all the banks or only to some banks?

Please share if you know anything regarding this.  I thank you very much.

Current creditors can access your reports while frozen, but they may still require you to unfreeze them to process a CLI request. If they see they are frozen, they will likely not process your request. You will know instantly when you try.

I am sure someone will come along with a better explanation, but it is up to the creditor in the end.

Re: credit limit application

No lender, regardless of your relationship with them, can HP your report from any of the three major bureaus while that report is frozen.  If a bureau CSR told you they could, they were mistaken.  Your current lenders can SP your reports while they are frozen, and some lenders that do SP CLI's will process a CLI request w/ frozen reports (others will not), but a freeze blocks all HP on the frozen report.

@Anonymous, as stated upthread by others, if you want to request a CLI with Chase, you'd need to unfreeze your CRs, they make no exceptions.  These are their credit origination lending policies, not the CRAs.  Otherwise, if you want to avoid the HP, place plenty of usage and it may be possible that during any periodic account review, your account may be eligible for an automatic increase.

Just keep in mind that every lender has their own lending policies as to how each extension of credit is handled or granted.  For instance, you can request a CLI with Discover via SP in the majority of cases, but there's always the option to HP (and they'll let you know in advance before you proceed).

Wells Fargo is very similar with a variety of their CCs.  BoA changed their CLI policy a while back from HP to SP.   Conversely, other FIs like TD Bank, BBVA, Fifth Third, BMO Harris, Citi Retail, and a plethora of others (including plenty of CUs) are typically a HP for customer-initated CLI requests.

So, circling back to Chase, if you want to pursue a CLI then CRs will need to be unfrozen.

Re: credit limit application

@FinStar

Thank you.  I got it, chase credit limit request is a hard pull.

I created a new post because it is a new question.  The question for my new post is can chase hard pull me if all of my reports are frozen?  It is a question regarding who can access my reports and hard pull me while my reports are frozen?  The explanation you provided answered my old post, not the new one.  The good news is I believe @Slabenstein provides great information regarding my new post.

Thank you for sharing with me.  It really helps me a lot.
