chase approval process

Hello,

I am interested in knowing chase's thought process when it comes to the approval process. I have applied for their Freedom card multiple times and been rejected each time. But when I applied for the Amazon Prime Visa Signature card; applied as a impulse more than anything, they approved me after the 'two weeks' message with an $800 CL. About three months later I applied again for the Freedom card and they denied me again, saying my credit profile was too short. I would assume that the freedom would be easier to get than the Amazon, so you can understand my frustration.

I have a Discover 2k limit, QS 1100 CL, and my Ammy card with now a 1300 CL. Discover FICO 712

Re: chase approval process

How old are your cards? The Amazon Visa is a co-branded card, supposedly easier to get than Freedom.

Chase "likes" a minimum of one year history, with at least one card. They also seem to prefer a few months between your most recent card and when you apply with them. But, Chase seems to have many variables... in other words, be patient.

Must be age then. My QS is the oldest at 4 months at time of last freedom app, the Amazon card was 3 months old at the time.

I would definitely wait with Chase. It took me awhile to get one with them, upwards of 6 months, and even that was a low CL. Chase likes to see consistency and age.

Re: chase approval process

I just apped  for chase amazon and was denied. Called for recon and was denied again but the rep was amazing about walking me through my report and what I needed to work on. I’m just rebuilding my credit and he said I’m definitely in the “upward mode.” They don’t like new credit. They seem to want proven credit I have one paid collection and that wasn’t as big an issue as was the fact that my available credit was so young and low. I have an unsecured personal loan (paid on time religiously) which made my credit profile seem as if I was consolidating credit and then getting new cards (not the case). This is a red flag for them with people with new credit. He said I  needed to have more established credit to offset the loan. This would give more balance to my report. So I’m going to tweek it a bit and try again in 6 months. Chase seems unlike any other bank.
