I opened an account yesterday with them, only put $100 in (that was the maximum allowed?), and I just applied for the platinum visa rewards signature, i did not get instant approval, it says 'referred to loan officer' or something like that. Is that a bad sign? my scores range from 694 -702. I put my gross income at $12000 monthly, do you think they will want paystubs or something? And other people have writeen that when you open an account with penfed, they use that same credit pull for 90 days, but when I submitted the app it said I authorize them to do a credit check??? I sure hope they don't pull it again, all these inquiries are gonna ding my score.
If those are Fico 8 scores, they're really good and promising for an approval. Some get instant approvals, but many are sent to a LO for review. Not a bad sign, just want to take a closer look. Your income is awesome, and some have to submit verification paperwork and some don't. The hp to open your acccount initially is good for 90 days. So you should not see another hp if you apply for more of their products within the 90 days. Got my fingers crossed - Good luck!

Big PenFed Fan Here! Most people wont get an instant approval with PenFed if this is your first card with them and done online. Oddly if done over the phone, those can yield instant ones. Referred to a LO is common, they like flagging egyptians as a hobby over there. If their computer wanted to approve you for $25k+, it would have been held and sent to LO as well. Factoring your scores and income, you're likely in line for an approval, but for such an uncommon starting limit that a LO will need to take a look.
You should be able to check your app status online. It will either say "Pending", "Declined" or "Transferred" (which is PenFed chat for Approved). As you've read, they do use the same HP for 90 days so you wont need to worry about that. Good Luck and hope you get it! My sign up bonus with them got me like $550 in amazon gift cards last holiday season.

The PenFed approval thread indicates the opposite. Most approvals are instant.

Maybe the rep was giving me a redirection-bs response to justify not getting it? i know the 2 cards i got after the first were instant approvals. I wonder if being a new member is more a trigger than someone with an existing relationship. i know BOA and Wells Fargo are big on that kind of stuff. but its splitting hairs, any approval from PenFed is a nice one
Congratulations!
congrats!! That's a very respectable starting limit!
