I started my Amex journey with the Blue Cash with a $1000 limit (still hasn't bumped) about 2 years ago. I never carried a balance and always paid quickly and before due date. A year ago I applied for the Platinum and was approved. Always pay on time. Internal limit is around 10,000 now according to Amex. I put about 35,000 in spend in the first year. In August I got approved for the Amex Hilton Honors card (the free one) with a $5000 limit. I had a balance on it of 3500 when I applied for the new Amex Gold a month ago and was denied. I paid off the Hilton Honors card that week and then waited 30 days and was approved for the Amex Gold this morning and the Amex Blue for Business. I'm very excited and happy to continue to show Amex how much I appreciate them giving me a chance. My score is still only 657 but my relationship with Amex is solid! Super excited.
Cool story, Cd. Congrats! on some strong growth with Amex and thank you for providing us with DPs.
Question: Did you not try for the 61day 3x request on the HH card?
Congrats OP! 😊
Congrats on your latest two Amex approvals! Yep, it is all about the relationship! I hope my low FICO will yield a 2nd Amex card soon! ![]()

Congrats on your success with Amex!! It's inspiring to read your story. It gives me hope for when I am finally able to appy with them next summer!!
Congratulations on your approvals!

I didn't try for the 3x increase. I've tried so many times for an increase on my $1000 BCE (used to be BCP) that I just gave up. And I didn't want the chance of freaking Amex out. $5000 is fine for me for now.
Congratulations - Seeing your post inspired me to apply and I was denied. Maybe next year!
