Congrats on both approvals !!!!

Keep trying! Not sure what your profile looks like but it took me a while to get in with Amex. The BCE was my foot in the door and it has been awesome ever since.

The blue, Delta blue and gold, and the charge cards are the easiest to get. I can't get a charge yet, probably because I burned them on a gold, but I was approved for the Delta gold with a 641.

Congrats OP!

Thanks - I'll check that out next time around
Yeah so this is me right now. I also just apped and got approved for NFCU Cash Rewards last night and got declined for the cash. Should proabably just chill for now! :-)

Green Dot - 200 CL (OPENED 10/18)

NFCU - 250 SSL (PAID DOWN 7.99%) duration 6 months (10/18)

Closed Accounts
Fifth Third Bank - 75 months / Derog 18 lates (almost 4 years since my last late)
Wells Fargo Dealer Services - 72 months (squeaky clean)

My recommendation would definitely be to garden right now. And also put a ton of spend on the Capital One (with a ton of payments), assuming it's not a secured card? My score is low but my open trade lines are fairly high given my score. I have $9000 with CO (started out as a $500 that I put a TON of spend on and kept asking for CLI), a $2200 Discover (started as secured and unsecured after 12 months), Amazon Synchrony at $3500, Target at $2200, WF at $2000, BCE at $1000, etc. You'll definitely need to wait until your profile has higher limits for the Amex. I think my Capital One was at $5000 before I got my BCE at $1000.
I really appreciate the feedback. Yes, all of my cards are secured with the exception of the NFCU GoReward at 1,000 CL that I was just approved for last night (I was and am still pumped about that 1). I got greedy and went for the NFCU Cash and then saw your post and apped for the BCE. Both declines but it's cool.
1 of the reasons listed on my Amex decline was no recent installment loan. Maybe I should've just waited 24 hours! LOL
I have an NFCU SSL that's going to kick in any day that should take my EQ and EX close to 700. Also depending on 2 AU's I have reporting this month for the first time that both have $8k limits, 30 years of perfect history - If FICO counts them.

I wonder if the profile is more important than the score for Amex. My score is the highest it has ever been with my history with Amex. I have one small medical collection of $586 from 2013 and no lates.

What I've noticed is the score is important to amex. There's a threshold, but they're willing to go around -10 if your profile is good enough. In my case, I was denied the Delta Gold at a 635, but approved at 641. Almost nothing changed except balances. Utilization stayed the same, just shuffled around. Once your in, your internal score holds a lot of weight, but you still have to get near the thresholds.
