@Jordan23ww wrote:I have seen youtube videos about AMEX card CLI's, people have said that you can get your first CLI after having the card for 2 months, and you could get up to 3 times your current limit. All these videos were made pre-Covid-19 though. I was curious what do you think about my first CLI request? On July 3rd I'll be at 3 months. I don't know if it's realistic to ask for 3 times my $10,000 limit or should I just ask for the $5000? My utilization is 0% and I usually spend $700 to $1000 each month on the card currently then pay it off.
I say go for the full 3X CLI and ask for $30k. There's no harm in trying. I have not been reading the forums at all really for the last 6-8 months, so I have no idea if anything has "changed" with how generous Amex is regarding the 3X CLI. I know there's a monster 3X CLI thread, so I'd check that out and read posts during the Covid months to see if you have any reason to expect anything less. Again no, the worst you can get is a reconned CLI when asking for "too much" so it's a best practice to shoot high regardless.

Did you end up going for it? I got a SL of $9,100 which matched my highest line so I'm sure I have some leeway to go up from there. I might go for $25k just to keep it "even" instead of $27,300.

Nah, cuz then it won't be "even" after the next CLI you request/receive... ![]()

Anyone know what the limit is? Should I have asked for more?
Congrats on your CLI! As for what you ask for, I think doing the $5K walk-up of your CL is ideal. I'm currently doing the same thing, as I don't really want to go through FR just to get a higher CL.
congratulations on your success!

Thank you so much for the reply and advice! Not sure how I missed this in real time. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question! I actually did a request and got denied. The reason listed for denial was my current Fico score. I didn't realize at the time that the score Amex uses can lag behind a month. At the time my Experian score was 739 but they pulled it and it was only showing 712 (the previous month's score). I'm learning a lot from these forums! Thanks for adding to my knowledge base! Hopefully next time I try I'll be successful!
