AOD4Me!

Huzzah! Little bit of story first...

I started working on paying down CC debt (which my husband racked up on MY cards when he was unemployed, as well as lingering wedding stuff) about 2.5 years ago, and found the best way to get it under control was to open some new cards (I hadn't opened any in a decade, and rarely used what I did have, since they seemed to just exist to hold debt for husband) for the 0% BT apr. I started with a Discover (since the Ring card rejected me) and was quickly on my way.

Definitely learned that the credit score game is a case of the rich get richer! Have credit already? Here have some more! Don't have any? Sorry, won't give you any either. Need a low APR badly? Definitely only willing to give you a high APR then. Pay in full every month? Then here, have the lowest APR possible.

Anyways, I sat on 1 of each "type" of card for about 2 years (USAA Visa flat rate, BofA MC customizable cash, Discover rotating categories, and AMEX points) and felt happy "gardening" without knowing that that was the term for what I was doing, watching my score inch up into the 800s with all 3 bureaus according to CK and AnnualReport.

Then in January I impulse applied for the Amazon Visa (have had a Prime account for over a decade), and was very surprised when I got the lowest APR. This made me wonder about what else I might now be a good candidate for, and I started researching things once again. It's relaxing... makes me feel like I'm min-maxing life! (Gaming term for the non-geeks)

I drew up loose plan to start the Chase trifecta (due to husband being military, I have annual fees waived while he is active duty... so far just on my AMEX, but I had him get the Savor and it's waived on that for him), and debated between the Sapphire cards, and the Ink cards, and decided I need the BCP, etc. (AMEX EveryDay Preferred has been my "daily driver" due to the 50% point bump monthly). I was going to wait till 7/20, which would be 6 months since I opened the Amazon Visa, and would also allow a student loan to be paid off, and 4 hard pulls (2 cards, car loan, and student loan refinance) to age off.

But dammit, ya'll made me itchy when I fell down the rabbit hope and landed here, and I ended up choosing to apply for the AOD over starting my Chase Trifecta (this puts me at 2/24 for Chase), figuring that 1) it's an Equifax pull, and none of the hard pulls aging off are on Equifax, so that was clean already 2) none of the other cards I will apply for tend to check Equifax, so that single hard pull from AOD affects literally nothing 3) if I don't get approved, then I'll know, and can go back to my plan without it affecting my Chase 5/24 anyways, rather than applying later after I have mucked up account age etc with new Chase cards 4) if I do get approved, well huzzah, best flat rate card there is!

Approved for 5k, at 7.49% (applied for 10k, but happier to start off with a lower amount and a better APR than visa versa). According to the hard pull they did, my Equifax came up as 768.

I was nervous about the DTI, as everyone spoke about, as I make 40k, and have roughly 50k in student debt. During the initial stage of the app, I followed the instructions and only listed my own income. However, when it came time to send in the laundry list of documents, for proof of income I attached my joint tax return followed by my own paystub, followed by my husband's paystub.

Anyways. Approved. Super happy! *pets the unicorn* Now, to see about that Chase Trifecta...
