Amazon.com Store Card - Worth it?

Re: Amazon.com Store Card - Worth it?

It's a useful card for 0% financing for Amazon purchases and worth holding on to - just in case.  I got one in November, 2013 and with a CL of just $400 - my lowest limit. They gave me an auto-CLI in February and bumped me up to $700. With those low limits, the card wasn't really useful. Recently I tried the luv button but got denied. So using advice I found elsewhere, I called the backdoor number and explained that I wanted to make a purchase on Amazon that is higher than the CL and I also didn't want to max out the card since I'm careful about my credit utilization, maintaining my credit score etc., etc. I  told the CSR I wanted $4K (should have said more) and I was approved. I think I used the card maybe twice with token amounts before then just to keep it in play. According to the guy who posted this advice elsewhere, the utilization, credit score spiel worked for some GE cards including Amazon and it did work for me but as always, YMMV.

Re: Amazon.com Store Card - Worth it?

Got mine in November last year. It was my second credit card (Wally came first). They gave me $600 and I used it a lot (I'm a bookaholic). Recently I got an $800 auto increase to $1,400. Love the financing deal since I buy everything on Amazon. I PIF as much as possible (almost always).

Definitely worth it, even if I end up using it less now that I have the other better cards. I'll keep it active for emergenices.

Re: Amazon.com Store Card - Worth it?

Why get this card when Chase offers the AMZN credit card with 3% cash back at AMZN?  I'm pretty sure any joe schmo with a rating of 650 or better can get it.

True and I have an Amazon Visa also but that's strictly a PIF-only card otherwise you wipe out the rewards with the interest payment if you run a balance. Although I PIF all the the time even with cards with a 0% promo APR, I like the flexibility of knowing that I can run a balance on the Amazon store card for a couple of statements for large purchases and not pay any interest. I think it's a useful card to hang on to provided you can a decent CL.
