Good evening everyone, just wanted to share with everyone what has been my crazy credit journey so far.
I’m a 19 year old student with a part-time job, ( which it seems most like a full-time), making around 30k a year that started this credit journey 1 year ago (pretty thin file). I began with a student cc from WellsFargo. To my surprise, they gave me a modest SL of $1200 for a person like me that did not have any prior credit history whatsoever and had just turned 18. Fast forward, March 2019, I received an offer from discover in the mail for another student cc, so in my mind I was like, why not? I went ahead and applied and got a tiny SL $500. Something is something.
Six months passed and my oldest account was one year and my Discover it was 6 months, so I decided it was good time to go for a chase card since I didn’t wanna go over the 5/24 rule. I went ahead and I applied and I got the 30-day message, which later turned into the frightful 7-10 day message. At the end, it was only a verification barrier that I was able to overcome after 23 days of faxing the so-called “too dark” documents. I got approved for 1.3k which to me, was an achievement since it was my first non-student credit card that had a “high” (for me) SL.
Well, that completely changed today when I started checking the Amex pre-qual site and I noticed I was pre-qualified for the Amex BCE.
At the moment of the app, I had a TU score of 724, EQ of 714, ( EX score is unknown to me) according to the Discover FICO score. Had less than 30% overall utilization across the board, and only 4 INQ on my EQ and 1 on TU. I’m assuming the score pulled was from EX since I did not see any addtl HP on Ck.
Anyhow, i applied while I was at my job, just to see, since I was already pre-qual ( I know it’s not guaranteed) and to my shocking surprise, not only was I instant approved, but also got a whooping, massive SL of 7.5k!!! My jaw dropped, and so almost did my phone. I was astonished that I was instantly approved for such a massive cl for me. I got goosebumps and everything.
Who would’ve thought that few days ago I was struggling to get a yes from chase for one of his cards and got excited for such a tiny SL, and days later I apped and got instantly approved for an Amex. I’m super happy now!! Thanks to the limit, my utili will probably fall below 10%.
Now, I will probably just stay away from cc apps for a little bit. Most likely will be let my two new cards age until I graduate from college sometime 2021.
I’m glad I was able to find this amazing forum where I can be advised by some experienced cc users that provide valuable guidance, so that this journey does not become unnecessarily difficult for new users like me.
