Amex SPG Approval and Questions!

Hey guys,

I decided to app for the Amex SPG card since I am booking a very long and very expensive vacation to a starwood property in February. I was approved however it did not give me a starting credit line. I decided to call Amex and I was told "Your card comes with no preset spending limit"

What does this mean? I am trying to book at 5000$ vacation and I dont want to play guessing games on if I will have enough. I know I can check my "spending power" however it makes me uncomfortable not having a set number. What do you guys think?

Re: Amex SPG Approval and Questions!

Congratulations on your approval.

I have never heard of an SPG card without the credit limit. It is not one of the cards that carries no preset limit.

Congratulations on your approval. I would contact AMEX again, you should get another CSR, explain to them why you inquiring and they should be able to give you your SL over the phone, again congratulations on getting the card.

Re: Amex SPG Approval and Questions!

One of the business cards I have is the business blue plus and when approved the verbiage with NPSL, but it does have a CL of close to 20k when approved so not really sure what it means maybe like a visa signature can go over limit, but most Amex cards can go over the limit.  I have alot of Amex cards as well, but when approved for that card the was the first time I saw that message on my approval a NPSL with a limit, strange.  I suppose I can go over it though as there is an option Need to Spend more button next to it vs. Check Spending power of my other revolvers.  So any difference, I have no idea, but have seen similar to behavior form Amex on that card I have

I was thinking what ABCD said..

I'm not so sure about the Amex CSR though... they might be that clueless

But, I have learned that the regular Amex CSR's can be clueless most of the time when I call... However, Platinum reps are nothing short of awesome with me. Right down to when my phone dropped a call yesterday when I was speaking to them, and, when I called back in, my call was automatically rerouted back to the same CSR

Re: Amex SPG Approval and Questions!

The same thing happened to me when I applied for the Amex SPG card last month. It said something like "Your card has no preset limit." on its website. My guess is they said that because sometimes you can call them to get a transaction approved even if it's over your limit.

Re: Amex SPG Approval and Questions!

I got SPG about 2  wks ago and received card number immediately along with specific SL so that I could charge in 5 mins.   And it was nice Amex overnight the card although I did not ask for it.
