Amex is bipolar

I applied and recieved my Delta Gold card about 2 months ago after being denied monthly for 8 months. I kept applying because I have a Gold Card from 02 so wanted the backdate and didnt care about the SP if denied. Anyhow, I got it and then a month later I said why not try for the BCE, so I went on a apped my Experian was right around 700 with 7% utilization and 50k in credit. I was denied and recieved the letter which stated too many new credit lines and inquiries. For some reason, I really wanted the Everyday instead of the BCE so I said screw the SP and apped for the Everyday 3 days ago. Of course, I got the 14 day response just like with the BCE

I expected to get an email saying I was denied. I noticed a HP on Experian though the day of app. I got the email today not only saying I was approved but for 9k starting credit line.

I find this real bazaar as my CR hasnt changed a bit. I have the two they pulled a month apart staring at me as I type this.

I am happy but still can't figure out Amex.

Amex can seem very bipolar, but that is really just the result of having computers automate the approval process and not being recon friendly. In my case, they approved CLI's when I was in more debt and denied them when I was in less debt - denial reason was debt-to-income. Income was also 25% more when denied.

Great you were able to get the Everyday card anyway. I had the BCE for a while but have been finding the Everyday much more rewarding. People are beginning to think that the Everyday cards are the easier revolver to obtain since it is new. Possibly, slightly lower underwriting criteria trying to get it in as many pockets they can.
