My Experience with Chase recon

So this is what happened to my Chase Slate app:

- I received a pre-approval letter (three of them in less than a month)

- After some thought I decided to apply, got the 30 day wait time for a decision

- Waited about 7 days to try the recon number

- Today, a very nice lady told that the application was denied and a letter was sent explaining the main reason: total credit card balances too high

- Later today I decided to give another try so I called the number again, a nice guy answered but this time I asked for a recon and told him that I did call in the morning to know the status. He then put me on hold for about 4 minutes! while checking my app.

- After those looong 4 minutes, he said that unfortunately the app was denied because of the same reason and I was ready to explain him why the high balances and that in my financial plans is to pay down at least 30% of the balances this week (completely true), while suddenly he asked me "why?" referring to the high balances.

- After that, he again asked me to stay on the line for couple of more minutes to check what he can do, that we would be checking those balances.

- After 4 more minutes he apologized for the longer waiting time and gave me the good news that the card was approved!! That for now with only a $800 limit, which I don't care because at least I was approved Smiley Happy

I've been a Chase customer for over 4 years and already have the Chase Freedom and the Amazon.com Rewards. Just wanted to take advantage of the Chase Slate balance offer and 0% APR until Nov 2015!

For those out there, never give up!

Congrats on the approval.  Going forward, I'd reccomend waiting to app until your utilization is optimized.  It can have a devastating effect on your score and chances for approval.
