Hi Friends!

I last received a 6k Discover CLI on 9/4/15, bringing my limit to 29.5k (which is already crazy iMO). Just for fun, I pushed the luv button last night 11/19 (the day my statement closes). I received the 2 day message like usual, but when I logged in today, my limit was increased to $35,500. Can you believe that?!

Discover is so awesome. I've been using Sallie to reach a bonus spend offer, but come the end of December, I'm giving my Discover LOOTTSS of love!

Thanks for the support of this community! I had NO idea what a CLI this time last year and my highest limit was 2.5k!

Congrats on your continued success on your CLI's, I've had great success as well with similar thinking of I didn't expect as much. I was wondering is that limit over half your yearly income or no? I'm just trying to get some idea where my max limit might be.

Awesome limit!! I'm early in rebuilding, and following the 'bk to 700 in 24 months' thread. It recommends Discover as third card to get after working two cap ones for 6 mos.

However, I've read lots of posts about Discover being tough with CLI's. What does it take to be successful with Discover?

I appreciate your input. Great job!!

Thanks! I'm not sure that I really agree with Discover being tough with CLIs since I've had such a good experience with them, but I guess it really just depends on your experience. I also feel like people are way more likely to post their bad experiences than they are the good ones.

I'm also not sure how to answer your question about being successful with Discover. My background is that when I was 18, I had a Citi card and abused it and ended up getting the card closed by Citi and some lates on my CRs. The first non-store card I was approved for after that bad situation was Chase Amazon and I was able to get my score up to the 630s/640s. I was surprisingly approved for a Discover card a year later with a 641 credit score and only the lukewarm history I mentioned.

All I really did is spend like normal - I didn't regularly run up the limit, but I also didn't NOT do that lol. I didn't know anything about utilization and stuff when I got the card so sometimes I'd let 90% report and sometimes 0%. It really just acted as a way for me to pay for stuff in between paychecks TBH.

This past year, I've used all the information I learned from this community to watch my utilization, look out for promotions, and ask for CLIs every once in a while. It just so happens that works for me. For most of this year Discover was my main card (at most 1.5k per month going through it), but these last 3 or 4 months it's been hardly used because of other card promos. That's about it I think - nothing special!

Good luck on your rebuilding journey! Smiley Happy
