So I've spent the last year or two not necessarily gardening, but trying to let my accounts get some age and history before trying any more apps. I went a little crazy in 2017 collecting new cards, which by the beginning of 2018 had me getting nothing but declines on new apps. I chilled out since then, and I picked up a few Amex business cards along the way which helped satisfy the hunger while keeping the report fairly clean.
I wanted my next app to be something that would be useful on trips abroad where Amex is problematic. I already have a QS I can use for general spend, but I wanted something useful on dining, which is my biggest spend category, especially when I travel. The Uber card was going to be it, but you all know what happened with that... so the Savor, being a passable alternative, was my second choice. I'll just downgrade it to the 3% card when it turns a year old. The $300 bonus is a nice plus as well.
I was going to wait until I was under 5/24 in January, but I got curious and impatient. Having almost no inquiries on my reports in the last 12 months, I figured I could afford some hard pulls. I figure I'll go for something awesome like a Sapphire when I'm under 5/24.
Filled out the app... one question which I haven't seen on other banks was amount of monthly credit card spend. I get the impression they like high spenders, and they probably wouldn't ask if it didn't factor into their decision, so I aimed high and put $4000... which is true sometimes. Income is a little north of 6 figures. Scores are hovering around 800. I've seen lots of reports that people with excellent credit are getting declined for this, so I was a little nervous while I waited for the app to come back.
They approved me with a $15,000 limit. I'm pretty happy with that.
I already have a QS with a $10K limit. I very rarely use it. I thought this might hurt my chances, but I guess not enough to tip the scales.
I also have a car loan with them. Not sure if that matters.
When I applied I was at 7/24... 1% util, clean report, AAOA around 2 years. I also have an Amex Delta Blue which I just got a month ago but it hasn't reported yet. Before that my newest account is the Citi Premier from July.
