Hi all,
Applied for a Chase Freedom Unlimited 07/14. EQ pulled, instant denial. Notice stated it was due to inquiries and lack of sufficient history (paraphrasing, can't recall exact words)
Called recon # today. Spoke with a very nice young lady. She took all info, looked over my checking and savings, asked a few questions, put me on hold for about five minutes.
Came back said she was sending it off to one more department and "if they proceed with the approval" I should hear something within a couple days.
She went on to say I should "start checking your account around Thursday".....now am I reading too much into this or can I get a little excited? Would really love this card! During the call I explained how beneficial it would be and that I planned to make it my main spend card. Not sure if that helped at all but fingers crossed!

Chase doesn't count AU accounts. What's your oldest non-AU account
Really? Interesting. She made it a point to ask if I was responsible for payments on the AU card.
In that case for a credit card oldest would have been the closed QS from 2019.

And no recent negatives, right?

Sorry, was thinking of another lender. They count AU. They can filter them out if needed.

Unfortunately, yes really.
Chase "strips" AU accounts because it creates noise age wise and utilization wise. Basically, they want to evaluate your profile and your payment history, not someone elses.
Cards you currently have are fairly recent, so that's where your denial is coming from, lack of credit history.
You may be asked if you're "responsible" for payments on AU accounts, but that's a pointless question, you are not..
You might be making them, but legally, you are not responsible, you could stop at any time.
Hopefully they will approve you, you're close to a year, and if not, I'd try again in October.
Fingers crossed for approval, though.

Got it. Makes sense. Ok, ill check my account around Friday and hope for the best. But I understand if denial stands due to thin file and lack of experience so won't be too bummed. Would probably wait until January for the next attempt.
Whatever the news I'll be back to update.
Thanks!
