Finally getting under 5/24 this Friday! I am looking at the Freedom Unl & the Ink Preffered.
What is the best way to apply for these two cards? Same day? Space in between?
What say you experts?
Mod note: I've updated your subject to reflect your approvals; feel free to change/edit if you would like. --UB
When you say getting under 5/24 are you going to be 4/24 or less than that?
I'll be 3/24. I should be G2G for both cards and I am trying to check the best way to get both
SAME day!
While ymmv of course, it has been reported that Chase has approved two accounts in one day with ONE pull...
Today , after countless hours reading this forum and re reading and searching and following the advice of the many experts on this forum . Success with Chase !
1) per advice on the forum I went to a Chase Bank and opened a Checking and savings account . I put $100 in each. The banker at Chase said they had to run my credit for the checking account and they use Chexsystems also . Took about 20 minutes . Both Checking and saving approved . Next , the banker asked me " do you want to apply for a Chase Credit Card also ? " I told her maybe later I could do it at home online , She seemed disappointed . I asked if she got credit for doing at the branch . She said yes . She was nice so I did. She put all the info info in and her codes ..etc. i had to electriconically sign and initial . She hit enter and we waited about 2 minutes . Approved Chase Saphire Reserve CL $23,900.
2) I went home and read more Fico forum about 2 apps in a day .(not sure on 2 HP s yet but i will be gardening for the next several months ) I was nervous becuase i had read a few gotchas on this 2 app same day concept. So , I called the Chase Credit card 800 number and asked if it was ok to apply for 2 cards just a few hours apart. The CSR said "yes , perfectly ok , you can have more than one Chase Card." Next , I went online to Marriot Rewards Card site ( really wanted this card ) -- applied and got the 30 day message . 20 minutes later my phone rings and it is Chase . They verified some info , and she said please wait while I submit your app . Put on hold ..music.. about 60 seconds later she returns and says Congrats approved SL $19,100.
Takeaways to help others ---
1) going into the bank helped my approval . Think about it , Chase had a real live person sitting in front of their banker -- not someone unkown behind a computer screen. Someone they could verify before offering a credit line. If you were lending your money would you want to see the person face to face ?
2) applying for another card the same day is ok and not frowned upon by chase.
3) They pulled experian my score was 723
4) AAOA was around 2 years / 24 inquiries last 24 months last late was 44 months ago/ Util 17%
5) Store cards that can only be used at stores and nowhere else dont count towards 5/24 . Personal loans , auto loans, dont count either . if they did i would be at 9/24 . Credit cards only i was at 2/24 .
6) received no preapprovals on Chase preapproval site -- so my experince is that preapproval is a waste of time if your credit is not 100% perfect in all aspects from inq to ultil to any lates ever.
7) earlier in the day was denied for Cli on Discover that i had $206 balance on $7400 Cl that was a 2 year old account- called recon woman was super nice said that were a couple things that i need to cal EQ and ask about. EQ score was 701 .
8) yesterday denied for Citi advantage called recon still denied they pulled EXP ??
9) I truly believe approval is based on way more than your score . Obviuosly, you have to have a good score , but each bank has their own criteria of what they like and what that dont like and no 2 are the same. Its kinda like dating . Not everyone is the right fit for each other. Some people dont mind if you are a social drinker or your a social smoker for others it is an immediate rejection. Some banks dont care if you have alot of inquiries or a late from a few years back for other banks it is an immediate rejection.
10) read , re read , research and listen to the posts and the experts on this forum . it is invaluable. it is like having a personal coach. are they always right no, but 8 of 10 they are, and those are great odds.
Hope this helps !
tyler, I believe the biggest take-away from your experience above is that by applying in-branch, one can bypass 5/24. Had you applied for the CSR on your own (which you suggested you might) you would have been denied for being > 5/24. True you could have applied for and received the other co-branded product, but by applying in-branch you were able to obtain the CSR.
Always best to do it in the branch.

I'm pretty sure store cards do count towards 5/24.

The info we've seen indicates that retail cards are part of 5/24. As BBS says, it looks as if the OP was able to bypass it. Bypassing 5/24 isn't all that unusual when applying in person.
