UPDATE of the century for me!

So my credit score has finally inched it's way up on all 3 bureaus and EX is right around 718 right now. I placed a fraud alert on all my bureaus, apped for the PRG on the 31st, got the "need to review your application" response, and called in. I spoke with a rep yesterday and canceled my Optima card after I saw the hard pull from EX on my credit report. Today I called back and spoke to New Accounts, did the fraud alert verification, and to my EXTREME and very pleasant surprise, I was APPROVED for the PRG card!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Not sure if closing Optima was in any way necessary, but it worked out for me perfectly.

I got a little cocky and figured I'd try apping for the Gold Delta card for business, got the "further review" response, called in, and it was auto-declined, likely since I just got the other card today. I guess I'll have to wait a few months on that.

How long do you guys recommend I wait before I apply for a revolver? I'm dying to get a card with a good solid CL over $5000.

Congrats on the approval wait a few months and try again SP if denied HP if approved your in there nowSmiley Wink
Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Re: Cracking the code with Amex?

Anybody have any tips on a card I could app for while I'm on my spree that'll give me a decent CL?

Re: Cracking the code with Amex?

Would need more info on your profile. If you are border line, I would suggest starting off with a charge card. But if you are 700+ with no baddies and some other good profile info, you could get a decent limit on one of their revolvers. But its YMMV

Amex PRG(NPSL), Amex BCE($5K), Amex Hilton($1K), NavCheck ($15K), NFCU CR Siggy($20K), USAA Amex($7K), USAA World MC($7K), CSP($2.3K), Chase Marriott($1.8K), Care Credit($2.5K), Cap1 QS($3.5K), VS($500), Cap1 Secure($200) Starting Scores(Jan 2013): FICO EQ: 643, TU: 552, EX: 567 Current Scores(Sept. 2016): FICO EQ: 672, TU: 703(?), EX: 682 In the Garden FOR-EV-ER!!!!! As of right now, I'm low 700s across the board with no baddies on anything. Amex auto-declined me earlier today when apping for a business revolver. Not sure how long I need to wait but I'm thinking of shooting for another company. Currently my highest CL is Barclays at $2500 unless you include store cards or specialty finance crap like Lowes or Care Credit, which are 5000 and 6300, respectively.

I tend to agree with you, just not sure what made them do the HP this time when they didn't do one on the BCE I recently applied for and instead just automatically declined me. Amex will just remain a mystery I guess, I'm just glad I got the new card! I was told I'll be able to call back in about a week and request them to backdate the cardmember date as well back to 2007. Not sure how it's going to show up on my credit bureaus though.

Re: Cracking the code with Amex?

So, interest thing happened. I mentioned earlier that I apped for the Gold Delta Skymiles for Business card the same day I got the approval for the PRG and got an auto-decline. I got the letter today saying the decline reason was because my EX FICO came back 641. I find this crazy because I know by EX is around 718 and I highly doubt they would've approved my PRG with a 641 score.

How do I find out what my score was when my PRG was approved? Is it risky to call and ask them?

I only got one HP from Amex.

See if your score come with the Delta

But you can be approved for a PRG with a 641

Charge cards are much easier to get

And remember Amex has it's own scoring system which they apply along with your scores

The 641 is what came with Delta. No score came with the approved PRG. I guess I'll just take it and not question it and app for a revolver in 6 months. I find it hard to believe they'd approve the PRG with that score, nor do I get why the score would've come back that low.
